Hi there VJ friends! My Costa Rican fiance and I are in our fourth month of waiting on our NOA2 trying to get our ducks in a row for the next steps. Just a question on the i134 affidavit of support. My fiance will need a sponsor and due to an incomplete year of work, I do not meet the minimum income requirements. (I was volunteering in CR previously...) We will need another person to sponsor him but I think I read somewhere that if the sponsor is NOT the fiance of the beneficiary, the sponsor needs to meet the income requirements as well as have the same permanent address as the US fiance. Anyone know if this is true or not??? Now that I am looking again, I don't see this requirement anywhere but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Any clarification on sponsor requirements would be so helpful. Thanks in advance!!

The co-sponsor can be any USC or LPR that resides anywhere in the US. You will each need to fill out your own separate I-134 forms and provide the financial documents that go along with it to prove your income. The co-sponsor will also need proof of being a USC or LPR.

Even though the I-134 is used for the K-1, the consulates still follow the guidelines for the I-864, so it can help to read the instructions for the I-864, and check out the poverty guidelines for 2012 to know how much is needed to meet the 125% for your household size plus the beneficiary.
