Hi Marchies, I haven't been on here in a while... can't believe some of us are still waiting! Andie, Rong, res, and everyone still waiting... we're thinking of you! So sorry you cannot be with your loved ones yet :(

Hey I see your POE as NY seaport, are you living in NYC?

hey guys, haven't been here in a while, I just got into the US a few weeks ago.

Congrats to those already married and ahead with their AOS forms!

I wanted to ask, before I filed for the AOS, did anyone file for the Advance Parole form together with the I-485?

Must it be a special reason that I want to fly back? Can it just be to visit family?

Thanks guys

Welcome!!! Finally here where you belong. We filed together the work, travel and I485 as a bundle. Didn't have a specific travel need, so after doing reasearch in VJ, we put "unknown" and multiple uses. Others have done this with no ill affects. I'll let you know if we get an RFE though! ;)

No, I live in Oklahoma, but I came in on the Queen Victoria via NY Seaport (it was an incredible experience! :))

We're about to file as well, and I am currently filling out forms. I will probably either put "Unknown" or some fictional dates/purposes in. That should work.

Congrats, I of course have not heard anything yet since my interview which was a week and a half ago but I will call the immigration officer by the end of the week to follow up with her. She was nice enough to give me her card but she needs to approve my dam case already i am now at 368 days.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

Hello, I hope you're all doing good. I would like to know if everyone use a certified copy of marriage certificate for AOS application or just legible photocopy, and should we include a couple of wedding pictures as well? one more thing, I tried to change my name at SSN office, they did not let me, even though we brought our marriage certificate. They told me to change my name with DHS or USCIS first, now can I just fill out AOS forms with my married name assuming when they issue me a card it will be my married name and not my maiden name? and after I receive the card, then go back to SSN office to have my name changed to my husband's last name. What is everyone's experience in this process?

We got around 6 copies of our marriage certificate and I think we sent in a certified one. But I think you can also send a copy, as long as you bring the certified original with you at the interview. We didn't include any pictures, this is also stuff that needs to be brought for the interview.

I had the same issue with the SS office. To this day they haven't changed my name on the card, even though we showed them the marriage cert and the NOA letters from USCIS with my married name. I had an infopass at the local USCIS office and was told that they will probably change the name as soon as they see my EAD/ AP card with the new name.

When you file your AOS papers, do it in your married name, there won't be a problem. And then all that you receive will be in the married name and you can go ahead and also change your name on the SSN card as soon as you have the EAD / AP. For the time being, my driver's license and SSN are in my old name, but my EAD / AP is in the new one. We will go and have the name on the ssn changed soon, and then proceed to change it on all the other docs as well. I always carry a copy of my wedding cert along with my passport to prove that I am who I am :) Hope that helps.
