March (2012) filers...

Update on our status since I haven't had time to log onto visajourney in about a month.

My fiancée got her visa about 10 days ago, and will be here on Tuesday of this week. I'm just trying to fathom what this will be like. We talk and skype every day, but this isn't like dating someone for 3 years and going to movies or the park.

I know everything will be great. My family is very supportive of this whole process and cannot wait to meet her.

I just keep getting lost in thought. 2 days and I'll see my tkbili in person.

She's flying out in less than 30 hours from now.

Reviews of Chicago POE make it sound rather painless. I hope the wait isn't long. Well, it's been since March since we've applied, so what's another few hours?

Ha. I've already gone crazy waiting.

I'm very thankful for this site with all of the guides and helpful people.

I have saved the social security number information to my computer already.

We're planning on our wedding on January 19. It's too bad all of this is taking place during the holidays. But, at least we aren't fighting as many people since most marry during the warmer seasons.

Great to hear from you!

thank you! sounds like a really good trick! :)

and the recipes... yeah.... its taking forever to bake something or even to shop for it... when you go to the store you have to convert everything you need from grams to ounces and then when you bake convert it into cups... :-/ so annyoing.. and then 1 cup of powedered sugar of course is not the same as 1 cup of ground almonds... but i made the first to batches of cookies and they came out pretty well :)

now, off to the mall and practice driving a little more.... ;)

oh another new thing that happened to me and confused me for a few seconds: last time i bought clothes the girl asked me whether i wanted my receipt in the bag or have it emailed to me... i didnt expect a question like that at all so i had to think about it for a few seconds and they were probably thinking "why is she taking so long... its not THAT important"... haha.... ;)

but i am learning new things each day...

yes, uscs, be patient with us! :)

Congrats on your arrival and the first weeks - seems you are doing well  I felt just the same about safety in the beginning, I'm in the Detroit area ... But now, after almost 2 months, I am starting to feel more comfortable and am not afraid to be shot everywhere I walk  I don't have a car yet, but I am doing little trips to the supermarket and the post office every once in a while by foot. I am working from home for my old company, so I am not bored all the time and bring home a little money at least. There is lots of adjustment still to be had, but it is more exciting than annoying

As for groceries, I hate the bread here and I am constantly checking labels. I am paranoid when it comes to High fructose corn syrup and very aware of ingredients when we do grocery shopping. In the first weeks, we tried to find a bakery in the area that has okay bread, but to no big avail. I always have crackling rye bread here and packed bread from Germany, and I have started making my own sourdough with rye flour. The bread is awesome, it actually has a crust :rofl: Other than that, the food is good, but we are cooking quite a lot at home.

Today, we sent in the AOS package, I hope everything goes well ...

Happy holidays to all of you, and good luck for the rest of your journeys!

I don't like using a bread maker, had one in Germany too. It also works without one  And if I don't have any fresh bread and have a craving, I go to Aldi's and get the packaged stuff that is a bit like Pumpernickel. Better than nothing and it doesn't taste like cake :hehe:

yeah, i've wanted to try making my own for a while - but i haven't had the time for that yet with all the stuff you have to do once you're here and now christmas cookies and everything! but i definitely will :)

@kaaha... thanks for the tip.. i'll see if i can find a wegmanns here - haven't heard of it before, though.

btw, for everyone who wants to bake german things: i found dr. oetker's vanilla sugar at farm fresh. you can look at their homepage to see which one has it! (it took a while to find that out and i almost started making my own (which takes 2 weeks, though ;) )).

I have not been here for a while. I'm happy to see some of March filers are already united with their loved ones and all the weddings that followed...what a joy! I can't wait for my time. Anyway, I would like to know concerning the tax form. When everyone had interview, did you all submitted form W2 or just the US individual income tax return form 1040 is enough? my interview is coming soon this month.

Hello AmazingLove. For the embassy interview, I sent w2 and tax records. I sent everything I could simply because I was paranoid. Good luck on your interview!!!
