Hello fellow VJers!

I've sent back my letter of readiness and had my medical so I'm just wondering how long it usually takes for the Embassy in London to send out the appointment letter and roughly how long till the actual interview. Just curious as friends want to plan a party to make sure I'm going! haha

Many thanks

Anita :D

There seems to be some variation on the date you are given for an interview after your medical. My time line is;

  • 17th February - Medical
  • 24th February - Embassy gets results
  • 29th February - Embassy sends letter with interview date
  • 16th April - Interview

Another member here had the same medical date as I did and his interview is scheduled for next week.

Wow, that seems a long wait for you. I'm just waiting for the postman every day now. I'm more concerned that I'll only get the letter a day or two before the interview date and then I'll be in a mad panic to get to London! Just as well you can book hotels and coach tickets on-line I suppose!

It might seem long but Jess is flying over today for a visit for ten days so it works out pretty well :)

I'm in Northern Ireland so I'd have to travel the day before hand and that takes a little more co-ordination (and expense :P) than just catching a bus/train into London.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the wedding date that is given on the cover letter you send with the DS-2001? Anyone with a wedding date sooner, or even says (s)he is available at short notice, gets allocated an interview date sooner.

sometimes the appointment letter isnt sent so anyone waiting longer than 2 weeks from the embassy receiving your medical results or DS-2001 (whichever is done last) to an appointment letter arriving, then you should call DOS and ask if a date has been assigned and if not does the embassy have everything that is required.

yeah the wedding date you put on the cover letter does seem to make a difference to how soon an interview will be given... i put "the beginning of April while Jenni's dad is home from Afghanistan" and it seemed to work because my interview was for 12 days after i received the appointment letter lol

Yeah that makes sense because our cover letter stated early August, but after we sent it we had to move the date forward because the priest would otherwise be out of the country :P

I'm a little worried about how far in advance the interview is scheduled, too... I was hoping for roughly a month, but when I look around at timelines it looks more like 2-3 months :(

Do they not schedule the interview until they receive your medical results? I'm so confused. So we should wait to do the medical until the consulate receives our case from NVC (which we'll know by calling them?), but can't get our interview scheduled until after they receive the medical results? What's the fastest way to do all this, scheduling-wise?

We started this process in July, and I thought for sure he'd be here by now. The thought of this taking another 4-5 months is absolutely killing me. :(

I think you're mostly confused because of what K1s are discussing which is different than your process. Your interview is scheduled by NVC rather than London and it doesn't depend on the medical. I don't follow CR1s but I've seen comments in either the CR1 forum or NVC forum how they have sorta worked out that interviews are assigned at a certain time of the month. If you aren't complete, then you roll into the next month. Sorry, don't have a reference for you or any better memory of it. Here's a page from London about your process http://london.usembassy.gov/imnvcoct.html

There are rumors that interviews are only scheduled in the first two weeks of each month, but others have said that's not true....

We got case complete at the NVC toward the end of February. I don't know exactly when, because I foolishly assumed they would send an email or something. My husband was able to schedule his medical to take place about a week after he called (this Thurs) He seemed to think that they wouldn't schedule the interview until they had the medical results: I believe he was told this when he called the consulate. But a few days later, he was assigned his interview date: April 27. Once he gets the medical results, he's going to see if he can get the date pushed forward, but I have no idea what the liklihood of that is.

If thay doesn't work and no unforseen problems with the medical occur it will have basically been 2 months from case complete at the NVC to interview. I wish we'd scheduled the medical earlier, but I don't know if it would have affected the outcome.

Oooooh. It didn't even occur to me that the interview/medical stuff would be different in the CR1 process. I'm sure that's why I was confused! Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out. Cheers!

:( Just realised today that I forgot to send a cover letter with the 2001 readiness for interview form. Is this a major problem that will cause delays? I'm getting more and more anxious as the days are passing as I've moved home but was very clear on the packet 3 documents about it. :(
