Fellow VJers,

My spouse is applying for her N-400 for US citizenship. We are confused by Part 11 on form N-400. In the form N-400, Part 11 has section for "Your Signature". However, when we checked the Instructions for Form N-400, it states that "You should sign your full name without abbreviating it or using initials".

We are confused: Should she sign her signature (i.e. the signature that we use for bank checks, credit car receipts, etc.) OR Should she hand-write her full legal name?

please help us out. What did you folks do for Part 11?

thanks,

CS

That would be the one the form is asking for -- her signature, not her printed name. As in J.A. Williams would not be correct, it would be as such John Anthony Williams -- not printed, but signed.

Ha, actually had problems with my wife on this issue, came up with a very artistic signature. Three places is all, the application, certificate of naturalization, and the US passport. Just follow the instructions and hand write you entire full name. Do it, and forget about it, then use your artistic signature on everything else.

I was thinking more in terms of part 13 that explicitly states to sign your complete signature, part 11 doesn't state that. But would sign it anyway, your full name as exactly in Part 1 A.

Such a trivial thing, why risk it?

We were saying the same thing about signing your full complete middle name and all signature, was just being facetious that my wife was making an issue out of it. But I think she was just trying to give me a hard time. The judge wanted her complete full middle name completely written out on our marriage certificate. She didn't give him a hard time, LOL.

But such a trivial thing, just write out your full middle name and all signature in part 11, and you will be told to do that on part 13 as well, plus on your certificate, plus on your US passport if you get one.
