That's your interpretation.

I have a far greater problem with his neanderthal lumping in together of sets of parental dynamics, regardless of circumstances. I seriously doubt he was restricting his focus to same-sex couples. His kind has a beef with any family situation that deviates from his view of the accepted norm.

This kind of idiot has no appreciation that "normal" parental dynamics can be abusive in the extreme, whereas single parent and same sex parents can provide the safest, most stable homes possible. He is blind to any kind of different.

For the record, I agree with you. I was a single parent of two small children for 6 years, and I personally bristled at the initial posting. We as a society, however, adore our statistics, candlelight vigils, and "public awareness campaigns." The issue here is really the constant push for a double standard- do whatever you want as long a certain groups of people aren't offended. The statistics support this bill, and it fits in with our current modus operandi in this country.

Statistics can be useful, but it's how that data is analyzed and what kind of plausible conclusions, if any, can be made. Take the Bell Curve, for example. Racists groups latched on to those statistics to support their belief that some ethnic groups are intellectually inferior to others. Ironically, the social sciences that do studies on cause and effect of social conditions like child abuse, are poo-pooed by Right Wingers such as this senator as being 'elitist smartypants,' yet he seems to have the knowledge and expertise to be able to effectively analyze the data on single parent households and child abuse. This is the era of ant-science and anti-education. I can't wait to see what the extreme Right has in store for us next. I think history gives us a hint.

Sen. Grothmann appears at the 6:24 mark.

Why do you continue with the deception? He appeared at the 6:25 mark..... :P

Seriously though.... All I saw was three minutes of this guy being pissed about gay activists protesting a conservative rally. He didn't mention anything about thwarting gay marriage or adoption. But I'll take your word that he holds these beliefs (or political stance). It doesn't matter....there is nothing anti-gay contained in the bill.

BTW.....did you get past the first few lines of my post? There is more to this than some assumed "anti-gay" agenda. I watched your video, now read my post.

I agree.....I just posted a few up from here that I wasn't particularly enamored with our collective affinity for statistics. Yet, statistics are used all the time to launch legislation.....statistics that are much less convincing than these, and legislation that is much more intrusive. I don't hear leftists complaining when statistics are mobilized in favor of "universal health care" or gun control. Why now are statistics so unreliable, when examining this bill?

As to your comment on the extreme right- I hope it doesn't have anything as horrible in store as the genocides perpetrated by Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot (communists). If you are referring to National Socialism, or Fascism (not the same thing) then you are in way over your head. There is a vigorous historiographical debate that goes back at least 30 years on the nature of these movements (the whole extreme left vs. extreme right). Suffice it to say I am intimately familiar, in a professional sense, with this topic. If you are interested, PM me and I'll dig out the relevant bibliographies for you.
