GOP Bill Labels All Single-Parent And All Gay Households As Child Abuse

A GOP lawmaker in Wisconsin is trying to pass a bill that would classify “non marital parenthood” as a cause of child abuse. Since gays cannot legally mary in Wisconsin, the bill automatically includes single and coupled gays and lesbians, plus any single person regardless of orientation. The bill “requir[es] the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board to emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.” Republican State Senator Glenn Grothman, who has a long history of radical positions, wants to spend tax dollars “educating” the public — with no scientific proof (because there is none) — that gays, lesbians, single mothers, and single fathers should not be allowed to be parents because their children will grow up in an abusive home.

In fact, Senator Grothman is claiming that the very lack of two married opposite sex parents in a household constitutes child abuse. Apparently, Senator Grothman believes that marriage is for procreation, and therefore only married people should be allowed to raise children.

In essence, the bill could, if it became law, be used to outlaw all gay couples raising children, and all single-parent households.

Good for the GOP. Any child living in a homosexual household should be confiscated by state authorities imo.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

That would never pass on a State and US level. Hell my father is a Republican Senator in Oklahoma and was voted the 3rd most genuine republican Senator in 2011 and he would never vote for something like that. I was a single full custody father for 7 years before i Meet Monreal. My kids are the best kids i know. Having one parent is better than not having any. Saying that its child abuse for Gay's to raise children made me laugh though. Its not true at all, but it was funny.

I can see not allowing Gays and single people adopting myself but if parents or a parent has a kid then the state has no right to say a thing.

You really cannot get any worse than the horrors that take place by heterosexual parents every second. Here are the parents of the year in Alaska (actually bet there is much worse):

Alaska girl locked in frigid bedroom dies

The Associated Press

Published: March 3rd, 2012 0

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 3-year-old girl from America's northernmost community died and her younger sister suffered hypothermia after their mother and the mother's boyfriend left them in a locked bedroom with a window open to a temperature of minus 30 degrees to air out the room because the girls wet their beds, authorities said.

The mother, 28-year-old elementary teacher Esther G. Edwards-Gust, was apparently on the lam Saturday, a day after she and 29-year-old Richard Tilden Jr. were indicted in the child's death. Tilden was in custody.

The couple shared a home with Edwards-Gust's 1- and 3-year-old daughters in the Inupiat Eskimo community of Barrow.

Police say the two girls last month were trapped overnight in their bedroom with a window open to temperatures that dropped to 30 degrees below zero. Both children were diagnosed with extreme hypothermia and flown to an Anchorage hospital, where the 3-year-old died.

Tilden later told authorities he'd been drinking the night before and opened the bedroom window to air out the room because the girls wet their beds, according to court documents. He also said the door's latch was broken, making it impossible for anyone inside the room to open it.

A grand jury on Friday indicted Tilden and Esther G. Edwards-Gust on charges including manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Tilden also faces second-degree murder and assault charges. He was arrested last month.

What does that have to do with some kid being stuck in a homosexual house hold? And btw I know Richard Tilden. He's from here (Dillingham) and worked for my brother. After his wife died last year he went off the deep end with the booze and never did get right in the head. He's Yupik Eskimo.

That is an awful, heartbreaking story. Dammit Nathan.

Blanket condemnations of households headed by same sex parents are pretty silly. Gay people are just as good or bad of parents as anyone else. They're fallible human beings like anyone else, but their sexual orientation should not be the basis for deciding their worthiness or ability to parent. U

Yes because it's completely normal for a child to be raised in a household with two dads that sleep together and have obvious mental issues.

Try harder. How about we say something like a kid being raised in a household were the parent sleeps with a sheep is ok also, as long as the kid is happy. I mean let's call white black, and black white.

I disagree. There shouldn't be blanket condemnation of course but for adoption purposes no way. The same for single people. I personally think I would have been a great Dad to a kid even when I was single but I understand why I shouldn't be allowed to adopt a kid when single.

those are the 2 most stupidest moronic statements i have ever heard in my life... your the one that obviously has mental issues... actually your hatred of gays makes me think that you probably have issues with your own sexuality.

America the land of the free... unless of course your gay and then you will be persecuted.

Any household that subjects children to mainstream daytime TV should be considered abusive, IMO.

Seriously, where does this end? Blanket statements such as this ####### are worthless in a modern society. No two family situations, opposite sex, same sex, or single parent, are alike and attempting to classify them as such is rank stupidity.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
