i had it just to be safe, and well, so i don't get the flu.... also the nurse at my GP initially said they didn't do it for people my age for free, and i'd have to go a private walk-in center, but she was awesome and got around it by checking her intranet thing which did actually list it as suggested for travellers to the US of all ages (also, she said she loads left over from the winter anyway). i know it's about $30 to get done at CVS, so you may as well try wangle it for free here?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but had a related question. Are there vaccine exemptions for people with allergies to vaccine ingredients? My fiance is severely allergic to eggs. One of the contraindications for flu shot is someone with egg allergies. He reacts very badly to the shot so has not gotten it in years. Would they allow this exemption or should he just "suck it up" and get it if he does his medical during flu season?

Like i said earlier in the thread, ALL Vaccine is OPTIONAL for K1. You will need to be up to date for AOS, and no, they would not require FLU especially to someone allergic to eggs. At the very least, bring your vaccine report to medical (if you have one), so that it can be translated and used later to complete shots in the USA. Is better to do some before arrival, but not required.

Attached is the info from CDC, notice is dated 2010 (but I had downloaded it about March of last year 2011). You might want to check the CDC site in case there is something newer

Your attached file is not the immigration requirement. CDC still thinks they are good suggestions but if you just want to get a greencard, then the requirements are different. Your list still has HPV and zoster which were dropped from the immigration list in 2009. Influenza was added to the list for all ages of immigrants age 6 month+ in 2010. Here's a good list. http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

Since you have just filed I129F and are waiting approval, it will be past Mar 31 by the time you have your medical exam. Your DS-3025 and that of the OP will be markesd "not flu season" and you will not need a flu shot for AOS. Getting any shots for your personal health is a different matter.

If xjoseyx (who went to Knightsbridge during flu season) had refused to get one, and her AOS was before next flu season Oct 1, 2012 then she also would be excused because it will not be flu season at the time of he AOS.

This comes from USCIS:

(C ) Steps to determine the necessary vaccinations . [Chapter added 12-15-2009]

Step 3 . If the required vaccinations were not received or not marked as “not medically appropriate” as of the date the medical exam was conducted,
determine whether the missing vaccinations would still be required as of the date of adjudication
.

Step 4 .
If the missing vaccinations are no longer required, the vaccination requirements have been met.
This is, for example, the case when the applicant has aged out,
or it is not the flu season
, or a vaccine is no longer required by law.

Step 5 . If the missing vaccinations would still be required, the officer should
RFE
for those vaccinations.

An example USCIS gives to adjudicators for Step 4 is-- an 18 year old needs Hep B but does not get it recorded at his exam. The applicant has turned 19 years old when the adjudicator is checking his immunization. Because a 19 yr old does not need Hep B, the applicant does not, even if he was 18 at his medical exam. He should be excused from HepB because it is no longer a requirement on the date his case is reviewed for AOS. "Not flu season" falls into the same category.

The ways I can see somebody needing a flu shot are:

--K1 if they have their visa exam during flu season and don't AOS until the next flu season rolls around

--K1 if they have their visa exam Octoberish and their AOS gets approved before March 31. All in the same flu season.

--K1s who have their visa exam when it is not flu season, but go to a civil surgeon for a new shot record during flu season. (New date of record)

--IR1/CR1s who have their visa exam and interview during flu season

Thanks! Sorry, I did mean for AOS but most people just have them done before the medical at the K1 stage. I'll have to look into ingredients of the other vaccines to make sure they're safe for him to take. Don't need any visits to the emergency room. Personally, I avoid most vaccines so hate the thought of all these crazy jabs. But we'll do what we have to do to get them here! Thankfully, nothing needs to be translated since he's in England and (for the most part) we do speak the same language :)

Sorry. Missed your post earlier. Any contra-indicated shot is marked as not medically appropriate by the doctor. That allows a waiver and the shot is excused forever and ever or perhaps until the contra-indicated condition no longer exists (example pregnancy). He will be given a waiver for the flu shot. Here's the containdications for adults http://www.immunize.org/catg.d/p3072.pdf

@Thomas70--we understand K1s do not have to get shots. The people in this thread are trying to get complete on their DS-3025 at their visa exam. Then they will not have to pay a civil surgeon in the US to copy over their records and add any new shots they were missing. Civil surgeons can be expensive and a hassle. Many refuse to do only the shot record and insist on a complete exam. I've seen people quoted $350. All of that can be avoided by getting it ALL recorded on the visa medical form. USCIS will accept it if no shots are missing.

Nich-Nick - I think you're going to be my personal hero on this site! You seem to be answering everything I've asked, no matter which forum it's in

The original was done 4/2011 in Egypt. On 2/29/12 we went to a civil surgeon to make sure all shots were up to date for our AOS. The CS didn't mention a Flu Shot as he completed the I-693.

if the original medical is done outside of flu season then the flu shot isnt needed for AOS. the flu season ends on March 31 so your original medical was outside of flu season
