I stumbled upon VJ while looking for info about Civil Surgeons in FL. Now that I am here, I'm finding that figuring out where I'm supposed to post is about as confusing as the immigration process. :D

Anyway, I am starting my journey from the very beginning. For the second time.

I met the love of my life in Australia 16 years ago. We had a whirl wind romance and were married 9 months after we met. We met in Jan 96 and he extended his stay so we could hang out a little long. In April, I visited him in US and we got engaged - and almost eloped, but we had the presence of mind to stop and ask the local INS what our immigration story would look like if we did that. It wasn't a pretty picture. So, we took their advice, and I went home single. Thankfully, our timeline was pretty short, and by August I had the K-1 visa in hand and was able to make it to my September wedding in the USA!! It was really a prefect story. When we went to our AOS interview, the officer said, "Please stop! You're so gooshy it's sickening!" (my paraphrase) and approved the AOS.

Then, in 2000 we decided to take an assignment abroad - LPR conditions had been removed, so it seemed okay. Long story short, in 2003, we returned for a short trip. Alarm bells went off at POE, and the lovely border officer dragged us aside and bullied us into signing the dreaded Abandonment of Status documents. (Don't ever, ever let anyone intimidate and bully you into signing that!).

Oh well. We prefer to live overseas anyway. We'll figure this out when we have kids...

Fast forward to 2011. Overseas assignment comes to an end and we come back to USA for 'Home Assignment' in October. We now have 2 kids in tow. It's time to figure this out.

So, here we are. Immigration Part 2. I'm on a Tourist Visa. We'll file I-130 & I485 concurrently in a week or so. All the people we've spoken with at CIS say our case is pretty straight forward... Oh, I hope so.

I'm not sure where I should post on the forums, because a) I am on a Tourist Visa applying for AOS; but b) my US Citizen Husband is petitioning based on family ties.

In the AOS forums, there are others adjusting/who have adjusted from tourist visas. Not sure on your situation, though because the only ones I know of are newlyweds and not people who have been married for umpteen years. I am sure the folks over there will be able to guide ... :star:.

Best of luck with your journey!

Thanks Deb! It's nice to hear the term 'umpteen years' again. Makes me feel at home! :D
