EAD with no SSN..can he work??

Hello! I would really appreciate some help because I have seen a lot of conflicting information. My husband (who I am sponsoring) applied for AOS in December. We didn't realize we were supposed to apply for a SSN before his I-94 expired.. Now he has a job offer and we are eagerly awaiting his EAD to arrive in the hopes that this job will still need him. Can he start working before he receives the SSN just using the EAD? How long does it actually take to get a SSN number when applying after getting the EAD? Thanks in advance for your help!!

He needs his social security. It takes about 3-5 days after applying. Maybe he can let his new place of employment know that he is waiting on it, but apply right away.

The employer needs the SSN upon hiring, but there is a few days grace period I believe (but they might not be willing to put it off). Like Kcoy said, he can get his SSN really fast once he gets the EAD. You think he is going to find a job the day he gets his EAD in his hand? Does he have something lined up?

You only need the EAD to apply and get the job. It satisfies identity and employment eligibility for I9 purposes. You do not need to show the SSN card, but you will need the SSN since you will be paying federal taxes and they have to be deducted from your paycheck.

How do you do that? Do i have to go to the counter and ask the incharge to print it for me?
