We are about 116 days into our wait for the I-129F petition approval for our K-1 visa. I want to start filling out the paperwork for Packet 3 and Packet 4 (I-134, Letter from Employer, Letter from Bank, Letters from family, Updated Letter of Intent, etc) but was wondering if the dates would be too early as our interview may still be 3+ months away. It will probably take a few weeks to gather all these letters but would the dates on them being in March be too early if our interview isn't until June? Whats the rule of thumb regarding dates on these letters?

Also, does the updated letter of intent have to have different wording or can it say the same thing as the first one just with an updated date?

Thanks!

I don't think there is a rule of thumb but I think they should be as current as possible. If documents are too old a CO might be inclined to question if any of the information has changed. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable going past 90 days. In fact I sent everything too soon in my opinion and ended up sending everything again.

I used the same letter format with a current date for the LOI.

Check the times for the embassy (NVC to interview) and judge from that.

You can get all your paperwork and letters in order, just don't sign or date any of them. Once you get your Packet 4 or actual interview date, do it around then. My fiance and I signed an updated letter of intent on Dec 28, 2011. Her parents and my parents signed an updated statement supporting our engagement and upcoming marriage in the US on Feb. 14, 2012. Her actual interview is March 12, 2012.

Hope that helps. Just try and keep the signed papers with dates within 1-2 months of the interview date.

Good luck!
