I feel sorry for you guys but this seems abit complicated and unrevealing.You need to get the real details from your man,i suppose it didnt know the denied VISA Lottery would come back to do this damage

Actually Marc Ellis told Joseph that he could apply to the DV lottery with no problem while we were in process for a visa. They are exclusive of each other. Entering mean nothing winning means you get a visa , which is what we wanted anyway.

I have a friend who is backlogged(retrogression) in tthe same employment I-140 I used to immigrate and she is also playing the DV just in case. In fact I expressed my agreement with her plans.

I was intrigued so went a looking and here's your answer. But the issue this couple has is his name being entered as a married to someone. Like if they had won was he going to marry her. Because that's when the documents would have to be shown.

Makes you wonder why aren't we all entering the DV lottery just because why not I say.

Okay read all about the DV Lottery man 2013 was closed on Nov. 5, 2011. Goodness so 2012 fold have from May to July to find out . I see why i haven't done this. My head hurts now. Good grief.

Well, the interview didn't go well today. He was denied for reason of immigration purpose. I was told (the petitioner) that I could come back to the embassy Monday morning before 11am to dispute it. It turns out that someone my fiance dated several years ago, had filed for the DV lottery and signed the papers that they were husband and wife. (He had given the girl his passport photo thinking it was just for a single individual, not a couple) He DID NOT file for the visa, this girl used his name and the information showed up on his file. I asked him if he showed them his certificate of bachelorhood and he said no. So, my plan is, to go to the embassy on Monday morning with the certificate of bachelorhood and explain to them as he did, that he didn't file for that visa. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're heartbroken and in shock right now.

Sorry about your denial. It is common to "hook up" with someone after a DV lottery win and fraudulently claim them as spouse in exchange for monetary compensation. No "individual" can in any way benefit from somebody else's win except a spouse, children. There must have been discussion going on about it between both of them. It is also common to have eggs in several baskets at the same time, going with whatever visa comes around first. All visa applications are cross checked in the data base to find things like this.

It is a misrepresentation and will ban him for life unless he is given a waiver which is very expensive ($4000 usually for attorney fees), very complicated and it takes about a year or longer. He now has the burden to proof his innocence, if indeed he did not understand what he did.I do not understand the motivation of her actions if he didn't sign anything and why she would have forged a signature, makes no sense. You need an experienced lawyer to advice you at this point but you need all the facts, half truths won't do. I am not saying he did anything wrong, at the same time I want you to be aware what you may walk into without sugar coating it. Good luck.

I am so sorry about your ordeal but something doesn't sound right. Did he ever tell you about this debacle before today? I have never heard of a certificate of bachelorhood being issued anywhere in that country...i guess it must be a recent development. You must be a DV winner before your name can even turn up in the embassy's database...i guess they were denied the DV lottery visa which means there is no way he wouldn't have known that she had filled as married even if they were supposedly single {misrepresentation}. It's a big mess coming from a consulate so freaking skeptical about every application...You will need prayers and a very strong will to see this through & we wish you luck.

WOW weird wonder why it's not required document for everyone. I sure been asking around and you are the first who even heard of it. But hey you got to get married. Maybe thats because it was 4 years ago. Maybe they stopped because well it proves nothing really. Right?

Am sorry about your predicament but I feel it's a redeemable one. Firstly, you have to know if the love you share with your fiancé is a sincere one meaning this story won't be strange to you as he would have told you about his past. Certificate of 'barchelorhood' or 'barchelorship' is something I have not heard of until this post and don't think is part of our legal system if at all there is anything like that-i stand to be corrected. For your good, put things straight with him as I know some singles (in relationship or not) used to file as couple in the name of increasing there chances of DV but this must have backfired in the case of your love. It will be the best for you to go to the embassy prepared for the worst than chicken-out by the fact that he can't make it. Even if he had applied for DV as a 'married man' you then have to go back to your drawing board together and have your part straighten only and only if your fiancé is not trying to use you as a stooge to get a US entry visa. I feel for you! and I hope this is not a con in disguise- my apology if it's not- but our system has been so crooked that we the citizens don't even know who is who to trust so lest a stranger like CO will now want to trust you otherwise. I pray that the Lord will make your crooked path straight! Amen!

Original copy of bachelorhood affidavit authenticated by the Consular and Legal Department or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nigerians living in certain countries will have to verify and authenticate this document. It is embassy and country specific. There was talk about it years ago but I also have not heard about it recently. It is not a form but just an affidavit.

I agree with you Ebunoluwa, there is a sworn declaration that you are a bachelor or a spinster. I know Holland requires it from some people.
