Question regarding spouse's passport

My wife and stepdaughters all have new Dominican passports. We were just married in the beginning of this month and the passports were issued in December. My question is as follows: If my wife's passport shows her maiden last name (meaning my last name isn't present on the document) will she have to get a new passport or will it be fine since her Green Card will have her pic and info on it as well? Her cedula and drivers licence from DR also have her maiden name. Thanks in advance.

If her new last name is going to be the same as yours, then best to get a new passport in that name, as the visa, SS card and Green card are going to be issued to the person named in the passport. What name did you put as her current name on the petition? Even if you used the maiden name, you can deal with the change at the NVC stage.

i130 has my last name on it. I wonder if it will just be a correction to do the name change on her passport? I will look into that. Thanks

By "my last name", I take it you mean your wife's current legal (married) name. You've had it longer but it's hers now too.

I also got married in Domincan republic, and I had a situation where I put the wrong name on the I-130 for my wife. When the petition was approved and sent to NVC, I called them and asked what to do. They said, send an email with the petitioner's name and beneficiary name, along with a scan copy of her passport, and tell them what my wife's name should be going forward. The name on the NOA2 was the one I initially put on the I-130, but after I sent them the email, all further correspondence had her new name which she had on her passport. The woman explained to me that the visa is issued to whatever name is on the passport. So if you want her visa to be issued to her married name you need to have her update her passport quickly, because if you are in VSC they are approving D.R petitons pretty fast.

Since you used wife's married name in the I-130, that's the name she should have on her passport. Amending the passport shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you are consistent in all your forms.

BTW, I think it's a good idea for her to go through the visa process under her married name... if she prefers to have her green card issued in that name. That way she can avoid having to apply for a name change to her green card (if it were issued in her maiden name) later on.
