Hi,

I've got a little issue here.

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but I sent my AR-11 form (change of address) almost a year and a half ago but I got the letter from the Vermont center at my old address.

I called uscis to make sure everything is alright and the woman told me it was ok. That the change of address was for their record not for the center I'm affiliated.

Could I get your guys help. I really don't want any trouble or getting kicked out of the US. My wife and I are pretty stressed out about it.

Thanks for your help

did you fill out 865 form, changed of address along with the ar-11. 865 has to be filled out by the sponser. what i would do is to filled out again the ar-11 and 865 and mail both copies to the vsc with a signed receipt proof of delievery. did you do the ar-11 online? if you did, its in their data base.

I didn't do it online because there was no online option. And when I looked at their website back then it was never mentioned about the other one. I sent my AR-11 and that was it. We have been doing everything we thought was needed. We are kind of freaking out because it says on uscis website that I can get kicked out of the US.

And my sponsor never changed his address...I-865 is for the sponsor change of address. By the way, I took an appointment next week at the local Immigration office to make sure they got it in their database and that I'm not hiding or whatever

Edit: and I live at my sponsor's house

The same thing happened to us. I filled out the online form for change of address as soon as we moved, and US hubby sent them a paper form and got a receipt from them acknowledging change of address. I have copies of both forms, so I am not worried. It must be something they send based on the info in your AoS petition, because the letter they sent was addressed to D. "Last name", and I never abbreviate my first name. I think it's a problem with their system, where they just fail to update all their data when you send in new info. It's common in large institutions, happened to me in college too - for 3 semesters after graduation, I kept getting letters from the Foreign Student Advisor telling me that I had violated the conditions of my student visa by not signing up for courses, and every semester I had to call and explain that 1) I have graduated, 2) I am a resident & 3) they are idiots.

The same thing happened to us. We completed the AR-11 online, and we also did the I-864 address change via mail. They sent the reminder notice to our former residence (my in laws house) My ROC was approved yesterday, no RFE, no interview. I think DaniG is right, they just have issues updating records. The right hand doesnt talk to the left hand.

botkilla,

As long as you have the receipt from USCIS about address change, you will be fine. I believe your spouse also needs to do the address change. That's what my spouse and I did when we moved.

I'm not sure if you get a snail mail confirmation receipt when you file change of address online. I don't think so. I know I got a receipt after I filed Form AR-11 via snail mail.

The confusing thing is, USCIS seems to say in one place, you have to file both AR-11 by mail AND change of address online if the alien has a pending case. In another place, it says if you must use online change of address, please don't mail in an AR-11! Is that confusing or what?

2. Non-U.S. Citizens

If you have moved, you need to follow two different steps:

Step 1: File a Form AR-11 (This changes your address in our master database.);

Step 2: If you have a pending case, you must also file a Change of Address online or call our National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283. (This changes your address for the specific application you have submitted.)

Also:

If you choose to use this online electronic change of address notification, please do not mail in a Form AR-11. On the other hand if you choose not to use this online tool and instead choose to mail in a paper Form AR-11 please understand that doing so will not update your address on any applications or petitions pending with USCIS.

The text is a bit confusing if you ask me. Here are the links for more info:

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa.Terms

Anyway, we got receipts for both AR-11 (filed by mail) and I-865. Still, a different service center sent us the ROC at the old address. Good thing we updated US Postal Service info.

Don't panic. This happens a lot as you can tell from others' experiences. It's just how they update/don't update their system well enough, it seems.

Pardon me, but I'm just wondering, you said only you filed an address change and your sponsor didn't move. But you also say you live with your sponsor. So... you changed your address to MOVE IN with your sponsor?

We moved back to my father in law house. He was the only sponsor cause my spouse didn't meet the financial requirements. That's why I'm living with my sponsor. I still have the appointment this coming Wednesday at the immigration office to talk to them. I don't want any trouble and make sure things are done properly then we will file for ROC. I will also do the online change of address after the appointment depending on if they send me to jail or kick me out or if anything is good to go
