Visa waiver program question

You can come to the US from the UK with a visa waiver. You can stay for 90 days. Does anyone know if that is 90 days at a time or if it is 90 days a year or what exactly? Do you know if you can extend it?

90 days at a time. No extension. No official limit, but usually considered to be 180 days a year.

90 days per stay. If you try 90 days and leave a month, then try 90 days again, you will at some point come to the attention of CBP who can refuse your entry based on his opinion that you are abusing VWP by trying to "live" in the US without a proper immigrant visa. There are no rules. It's his subjective opinion. You will be put back on the next plane to the UK and will not be able to use visa waiver if you want to give it another try. A B-1 tourist visa might be hard to get after that too. Again no specific rules.

Short visits, well spaced, usually aren't a problem especially if you have things to show ties to the UK you will return to---a house, a lease, utility bills, a job.

Cool! No intent to go overboard with it. We're making plans for Sim to come back for 3 months while we wait for the K1 visa processing. Since he's already been this year, I didn't know if we needed to reduce it.
