You're welcome! And thanks :)

Question 31 a and b refer to people immigrating with the beneficiary. Accompany in this case does not mean travelling with, but moving with, aka immigrating. Trust me.

If you put the petitioner's name, it's going to thoroughly confuse the reviewing officer as the petitioner in this case is living in the US. Why would someone living in the US immigrate to the US?

NVC does NOT care who travels with the beneficiary, just like they do NOT care what your port-of-entry will be. They just care about WHO is immigrating with the beneficiary.

To further prove my point, on the DS-260 (online version of the DS-230) that question is re-phrased to make it clearer: "Is your spouse immigrating to the US with you?" and "Is your spouse immigrating to the US at a later date to join you?" This question is basically only applicable in IR-5 cases (parent visa) when both parents are immigrating together. In IR-1/CR-1 cases, those two answers should be no/none.

Hopefully it doesn't cause us problems at the consulate, but I admit I interpreted that question literally. As it does say "Who listed in section WHATEVER is traveling with you?" I did list myself. NVC apparently saw what I was saying and didn't seem to bat an eye at it.

Thanks but I have a problem with that item then, and I would like to ask for you advice to see what options I have to resolve my issue.

It happens that, that same page where 31a is located at (Part 1 of DS-230, page 2) is the same page where beneficiary (my wife) signs and she has actually just sent me that piece of paper with her signature via snail mail (last Monday) with my name on 31a.

Can she retype the form, sign it, scan it as a PDF, and send it to me via email, OR does that Page HAS TO HAVE her Original Signature on it?

It DEFINITELY has to have the original signature. NVC will issue a checklist if any of the signatures on any forms are copied.

But a possible, easier solution: simply cross out your name on that question and write next to it 'none' when you get it in the mail. Don't use white-out as I believe that's a no-no. Doing it this way, you don't have to wait for your wife to fix the error, sign it, and send it again. You can simply fix the error and that's it.

In this way, accompany does NOT mean travel with. But I'm glad NVC understood and didn't issue a checklist for that. I'd suggest bringing a corrected DS-230 or just mention it at the interview so they can correct it.

Got it and thanks!

@Saylin: Don't you agree that the use of the word "ACCOMPANY" in question 31a could create a lot of confusion?

It might be "obvious" for you that ACCOMPANY does not mean "Travel With" but for most people the word "ACCOMPANY" has only one Meaning in the Dictionary. Just saying

Oh, yes, I agree, that it can cause confusion. But if you think about it long enough, you'll see the logic from where I'm coming from.

It's the same thing with that question on the I-864 about household size where you put a 0 for spouse since you've already counted them above.

I believe there are a few questions that should be re-worded to cause less confusion, especially to those that aren't as fluent in English as others.

EP shouldn't affect the invoicing of the AOS bill at all... Maybe requesting a supervisor and explaining your situation might help.

And side-question, what's the status on submitting the DS-261 (online choice of agent form)?

<_< Damn it...thought I had an epiphany

It DEFINITELY has to have the original signature. NVC will issue a checklist if any of the signatures on any forms are copied.

But a possible, easier solution: simply cross out your name on that question and write next to it 'none' when you get it in the mail. Don't use white-out as I believe that's a no-no. Doing it this way, you don't have to wait for your wife to fix the error, sign it, and send it again. You can simply fix the error and that's it.

I think I will send it like that and as a precautionary measure have my wife bring a corrected DS-230 to the Interview in the event they ask her to correct block 31a. Thanks!

P.S: I'm skeptical about drawing a line through my name and then have NVC reject it because of the damned line
