Jing, could you please update your timeline so we can more accurately help you. I'm going to assume that the cases were already combined, if not then you need to request NVC combine them asap. Since the cases are combined you only make one AOS payment. This is for both your wife and daughter. Since you paid it for your wife the cover sheet will have her name, you use that cover sheet for both. I paid it first for my Step-daughter and used her AOS cover sheet for both. I also sent them together in the same package asking them to be process together. You can use your wife's email address for your daughter if she doesn't have one. I sent DS-3032 for my wife and step-daughter from my wife's email address(My step-daughter is 7). The email has to be sent from your wife's email address, if you can access it then you can send it but it has to be from her email address. But you need to make sure the cases are combined first and foremost.

Is there an official name for cases combined? I called and asked NVC to combine them, but they didn't sound they knew it. I'll wait to get the EP confirmation, and will call them again if no satisfactory answer.

I noticed that NVC referred my wife as "Principal Applicant". Does that mean the mom and daughter cases are combined?

Whereas you're entirely correct in everything you say, I would point out dear Saylin you were doing it in Canada and not Gambia or China Sometimes getting such things done in such places can be a pain (depending on where you are in China. I can only speak on it for direct experience). For instance, getting the passport notarized in China was going to be such a pain Sue just mailed the passport to me to have it done here.

That said, even if it is a huge pain Married Separately doesn't need all that I don't think so it would still be the better choice than single. I think those tax places recommend such a braindead solution because they really don't know tax law and are usually just lazy. After all, the qualifications to work at such a place (even if some are knowledgeable) is a short class and a heartbeat (heartbeat optional).

It doesn't have to be Gambia to mean problem... I have no idea where I could get my passport certified in France, I don't think such a thing is even possible (a law was passed about 10 years ago stating that demanding certified copies of a document was now prohibited and that regular copies were valid. Even before that, the certification of a document containing a photo was impossible).

No refund for us anyway since it's all foreign income being excluded so it was really not worth the pain!

Not necessarily, Principal Applicant is how NVC refers to the foreign spouse even when there's no dependant. It's their own way of saying "beneficiary".

Nope. Instruction packet is the package you receive from NVC about the IV package (DS-230 and such).

The interview letter is Packet 4 on the timeline.

I was confused by that too. There's also no place on the timeline for "return instruction packet". Or I'm just not seeing it.

It was that way for me an entire business day and most of the next. I'm sure most of the processes run in a batch mode, instead of real time, and thus things get updated relatively slowly. The only good news is that your AOS (I-864) bill ought to be available soon after it comes back, if not right after.

Thank you foobaz123. Going on my second business day and the NVC Payment portal still down for me. Hoping it comes up very soon. I'm fired up and ready to go!

Hey Jiang,

I have a question, did you send both I-130's together or seperately? No there isn't a name for when they are combined. What I would do is send an email to them with your name as petitioner and both beneficiarie's name and case numbers and request they be combined. This should be done automactically at NVC but sometimes they miss. Also, on the payment portal there's a related cases spot. For mine it says:

Related Cases

John Smith, the petitioner of this case, SDO********, has also at least one other related case which is currently in process at the National Visa Center. The AOS fee payment for this case will satisfy the AOS fee requirement for the related case(s) listed below.

-SDO**********

If you see this then they are combined.

Just tracked my AOS package, which I sent in the late afternoon yesterday. It arrived at 7:22am at NVC, guess living close to NVC has it's perks. I didn't even express it.

So when should I call and start harassing them about my case being complete. Tomorrow perhaps. :rofl:

Late tomorrow, around 6pm give them a call. they should at least add it to the system as received and in process of review. Mine is the same thing deal.
