What a wonderful compilation!

I'm new at this so, forgive me if I sound stupid but, what if you don't have a lawyer and you are doing the paperwork yourself? In DS-3032, what do I do? And it sounds like it but I need a confirmation. When we get bills like AOS ($88?), and IV(???) do you pay online?

Thanks a lot in advanced!! :-)

- DS-3032 means that you're assigning another person to represent the beneficiary (you or your spouse) as point of contact. So all NVC correspondence will be sent to the agent (assigned in that form), Usually the Petitioner (some cases a lawyer).

- You can hire a lawyer BUT you don't have to have one. I would assume 95% of this VJ'ers don't have one.

- IV would be $404 even. Yes you pay it online (fastest way) or with cashier check or Money order. you cannot pay at Interview and/or via a non-US based bank account.

Please update your timeline to better help you out. :)

Thank you Gad33 and TangoBravo!

I am relieved to know that you can pay online! Me and my husband don't know much about money orders or checks. We called his US bank and they said its better to make a check. I hope there is only one kind of check. I would hate to get an rfe for it. I made sure that it is payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security though :-)

I am just waiting for the check we ordered from navy federal credit union. (They said to give it 2 WEEKs!!!!)

Once we receive that I am fed-ex-ing my I-130 petition right away! So for the ds-3032 I guess I am going to write our address again over there because both me and my husband lcurrently live together in the middle east.

Thanks a lot guys, blessings to your petitions!

Read through the guides provided in the WIKI. Start off by reading the 2nd one linked in Saylin's first post. Here's the link again. When you've read it come back with any specific questions.

Many people have completed this process without a lawyer. And it is fine for you too as long as your case is straightforward such as no overstays in the US no criminal convictions etc.

It's beginning to look like Saylin is not going to get her Poutine.

When you get to NVC, I'd suggest paying online and not by check. Paying online only takes a few days whereas sending them money would take about 2 weeks.

And don't worry about NVC for now since you haven't even sent your I-130 yet!

foobaz, can you use GZO case number for the NVC AVR? I tried it which only seems to take GUZ case #.

It takes me about 1 week (5 working days) to get the IV bill invoice. I sent out EP with DS-3032 on 2/22 and got the IV invoice yesterday. NVCInquiry sends me duplicate emails for that (don't know why). And I received a "False" Checklist Cover Letter from NVCInquiry. I assume it is "False" since it only asks me to make the IV bill payment which I only got about a few hours before.

Probably not. I actually use the USCIS number as I programed the phone to autodial the entire sequence from "Hello" to the case number.

Putting it in by hand takes too long :D

If you wanted to do it yourself, the sequence is:

6033340700;1,1,1,4,1,CASENUM#

Where the first bit is the phone number, the ones in the middle get to the point of entering the case number, the "4" is for WAC (you'll have to adjust it if you came through VSC instead of CSC) and CASENUM is your USCIS case number followed by pound.

On most phones the semi-colon after the number will make it wait for confirmation before sending the rest.

Wow, nice trick! good.gif Never knew you could do that. Granted, I was using Google Voice on my computer to call (free calls!) so that wouldn't have helped as I wasn't using my phone!

Just wanted to make sure you knew it was a separate process and not needed with the I-130 package. Some people get confused...

It may work with Google Voice too. You'd just save it as a contact the same as with a 'real' phone. :)

I was reading up on "Documents the Applicant must Submit to the NVC" on Travel.State.Gov and it says:

How do I obtain a police certificate?

Determine the countries from which a police certificate is required. Refer to the table below.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates

Contact the appropriate police authorities. Additional information on how to obtain a police certificate can be found on the Reciprocity by Country page.

So I clicked on the "Reciprocity by Country Page" found Mexico, and under "Police Records" it says, "UNAVAILABLE."

Am I to assume that this means I don't have to submit a police record to NVC?

1. Yes, both of you would file I-864 forms.

2. You have two choices here. Either have just your father file, but you'll need to include his W2s to separate his income from your mother's, or have her file an I-864A. It won't hurt you if she doesn't file, you just have to make sure your father has his W2s to show which income is his on the joint tax returns.

3. Since pay stubs and employment letters are optional, no, he doesn't need them from both, but it would be a good idea. A note for pay stubs: if they have a YTD (year-to-date) column on them, then you really only need to submit the most recent one as proof. As far as I know, I don't think tax transcripts list the person's job. It's just a bunch of numbers.

Saylin, for my dad's W2's I should include his W2's that correspond with the IRS transcripts I will be sending which in this case will be 2008, 2009, 2010. So 3 separate W2's for 3 separate years right?

When do interview dates get scheduled?

If you talk to operators at NVC, they'll always tell you they ONLY schedule during the second week of each month. This is a LIE. They schedule interviews ALL month long. Many people (like myself) have gotten scheduled during the last week of the month. I repeat, they schedule ALL month long.

Hi,

My consulate is Dominican republic.

My case has 1 month since my case is complete. I called NVC and they always tell me like you said they'll always tell you they ONLY schedule during the second week of each month. So, I would like to know if I call DOS - 202-663-1225 Do they will tell me the same thing? Becasue I would like to have a different answer from what I get from NVC.

Thanks

DOS will actually have a different (yet still incorrect) statement. When I called DOS every day to find out my interview, very often I was told NVC would first ship my case to Canada and the consulate there would schedule the interview headbonk.gif But I continued to call since the more sources (with access to my information), the better.
