great, thank you, and you had no problems with it right? he is completely fluent in english. :star:

Nope, no problems. I'm not even sure if it was a requirement to translate the documents but Paraguay has 2 official languages, not just Spanish, so I went ahead and did it. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Had to have my wife mail me the papers again to complete our IV package because the original envelope never made it to my box  . This time though we went "UPS" with tracking number and the whole nine yards and it is scheduled to be delivered TODAY! Yay! ... So as soon as I get home this afternoon, I expect to have my wifey's envelope waiting for me to make the rest happened.

TODAY'S GOAL: To Complete and Overnight via Fedex our IV package to NVC by 6 PM!;)

So I don't really know if I should call right now or not. My NOA2 was Friday. It is Wednesday now. They should have received it by now right? But I suppose it will still be until next week when they assign a case number?

What can I do in the meanwhile? The AOS package is ready to go. For the IV package I am waiting for my wife to send me the birth certificate and translation.

I do have one question. I have the police certificate for my wife from Canada. In the instructions it mentions to include police certificate from all places you have lived since age 16 and your place of nationality. Here is the situation. My wife is a national of Pakistan. She had moved to the UAE and spent 20 years there and then moved to Canada 2 years ago. She has notlived in Pakistan since she was a baby. Does she still need a police certificate from there? She is no longer living in the UAE and they only issue police certificates in person and she won't be visiting there any time soon.

What should be the course of action for this?

I had written a letter like the following. Would this be useful? What do I do about Pakistan though? Are they strict about checking that stuff? Should the Canadian police certificate suffice?

Explanation of No Police Certificate from United Arab Emirates

The beneficiary, XXXX XXXX, has spent most of her life in the UAE. However she moved to Canada in August 2010. She has not travelled to the UAE since her marriage and the beginning of this application process. The UAE only issues police certificates in person.

Below is what is stated concerning the police certificate from UAE in the Department of State Country Reciprocity Schedule:

Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

Even though you just got your NOA2 last Friday, you can still call and see. And lately, it's been taking about 3 weeks to get a case number, so you probably won't see a case number until the first or second week of April.

All you can really do in the meantime is get all the packages ready, go over them each day to make sure everything is correct (everything is signed and dated) and such.

For the police certificates, read this: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police There's a table there showing in which situations you need to get a PCC from a country. I'm confused by your wife's situation as I thought UAE and Pakistan are two different countries. If she hasn't lived in Pakistan since she was a baby, then she shouldn't need a PCC from there as it's only places one has lived over the age of 16. For UAE though, did she live there after she was 16? And for how long? I'm thinking she'll need a PCC from UAE.

1. I filled out the DS-230 in "normal". I only capitalized the first letter of necessary items.

2. It'd be better to just write out the same information. It'll take you just a few extra seconds :P

3. Definitely don't leave it blank. Either of your suggested options work: 'see continuation sheet', 'see attached', 'see additional sheet', etc.

I had written a letter like the following. Would this be useful? What do I do about Pakistan though? Are they strict about checking that stuff? Should the Canadian police certificate suffice?

That last line looks like it could save your wife a trip to the UAE! I would include your letter as both a paragraph in the cover letter, as well as including it by itself behind the Canadian PCC.

She lived in the UAE until the age of 21. But UAE only gives out Police certificates in person. I know it says in the reciprocity list that it should not be needed. My question however is the following: Do I need to send an explanation why the police certificate is not included? Or should I submit the package without that? What are the risks of a checklist due to a lacking Police certificate which according to their procedures is not required?
