Wow! This thread has become very very long, so I apologize if the question I am about to ask has already been answered elsewhere. Please do me a favor and give me an answer anyway or re-link the previous answer.

I would like to use the option to email the Choice of Agent to NVC when case number has been issued. I am petitioning for my son who is 16 years old and currently in school and unfortunately does not have an email address or access to the internet where he is.

Question is, can I use MY email address to send his choice of agent on his behalf. The body of the Choice of Agent "form & sample" is worded in a way to be completed by the beneficiary (my son). So, will it be wrong if I "Petitioner" drafts a Choice of Agent email (for my son), put all the required info and then email it myself from my email address? My email address has all my names, so it will be evident who is sending email.

OR

Can I also complete the REAL DS-3032 form, sign my son's name at the bottom (with parent, next to his signed name), then scan the signed form to PDF, then email it myself.

Create a new email with his name and send it (and CC your self) on his behalf as you're his father and he's minor. You and your son (beneficiary) are the only individuals that are supposed to know case# and DOB#s as measure of verification in the emails' body.

Called...spoke to Casey...wow what a ray of robotic sunshine. "your case was received Mar 12/12, it hasn't been entered into the system yet, thank you."

Would be ok with that if my husband wasn't having a really awful day too...think I'll close my office door and cry now. Not tough enough for today, can I have a do-over? :(

I'm sorry to hear that. at least Casey confirmed 03/12/12, not:" we still waiting for your case from USCIS" :). Cheer up, you guys will be fine.

 Another day another wait...NVC could you please assign my interview date? It would greatly be appreciated!

this is a horrible wait!!! when you can't control stuff after getting used to fast NVC phase (not anymore)....USCIS mode: ON!

I suppose if my civil documents had been in a language that doesn't use latin alphabet, I would have translated them. But I stuck with the NVC official statement which does say you don't need to translate anything that is in the language of the country you will have your interview in. I have a police certificate coming from a third country, so of course this document had to be translated (was multilingual but the header was not translated so I did it).

However, if some of you decide to go ahead and translate (which will be unnecessary in the vast majority of cases), then you (beneficiary or petitioner) can do the translation yourself! There's absolutely no need to waste money by paying a professional translator, except for some rare countries that specifically require notarized translations.

All you need to do is add this sentence to your translation: I name certify that this translation is accurate and that translator is competent to translate, with your signature.

i agree, but everyone here has me freaking out. my husband is from spain, the consulate is spanish, nvc says not to send it, i mean crystal clear. i guess i'll just tell him to translate the documents himself so that we can avoid any pitfalls like a hillbilly jerk reviewing our case

sheeshkabelle is correct, Anything that's not English SHOULD be translated. keep in mind that NVC specialists has to confirm that you have all paper work that are required and before completing the case (regardless of submission to the Embassy). When Saylin wrote the guide she wrote it for all nations (including UK, Ireland (non drunk part :} ),Canada...etc - mainly English language). However, an applicant should read their country requirement in order to make a decision of translate or not translate. the answers given in VJ forums are the safest through all situations to minimize any chance of a checklist, doesn't mean a member should not read the country where they are interviewing in. If you ask me? I will tell you to translate any non English doc, for a simple reason is that my country's portal Required any non-French or non-English document should be translated.

Let me ask you this? If you receive a checklist about translating your paper work, would you be able to blame the 2 NVC reps that you confirmed with?

I agree, it is country specific and people should go by what the norm is for their consulate/country. There is no argument from me here. And as much as I do understand your point, MY point was simply that NVC states certain things on its website and I made my statement based on similar experiences of people from MY country as well as the confirmation I got from NVC operators. So, to answer your question, no, I would NOT "blame' 2 NVC operators if I get a checklist. That would just be childish and I am well aware that what operators say is not set in stone...

In the travel.state.gov site it only says:

Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. So if you're in Spain and your birth certificate is in Spanish, no translation needed!!! Confirmed with NVC

If you really want to take the risk of sending UN-Translated paperwork by all means go for it. We translated EVERYTHING just in case. What may cost now a few extra $ to translate is worth more than having the whole process being delayed because we tried to not go the extra-mile to facilitate the papers to be translated into English.

I agree that getting translations now are a small cost versus the potential delay and to avoid getting a potential checklist, but again NOT required for all countries. I hear everyone's point, just hope someone heard mine. Lizka seems to get what I'm saying...

No, it might not be required, but I have seen people get a checklist for translations. That's why I recommend getting them.

 Thank you. My only point was that it may not be required, although recommended.

If you have them, send them.

This is exactly my point :thumbs:Glad someone understands!

Yes, we all know what the NVC website states. But I will say again, I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE GET A CHECKLIST FOR NOT SENDING IN TRANSLATIONS. Sure, your case might pass without translations, but on the other hand, they may not and you'll get a checklist. Do you want to waste a week or so slowing down the process?

Gotcha

On another note, I called NVC again this morning and after giving my receipt number, she asked for the receipt date right away and said I need to wait at least 15 days for them to receive the file... even though I've seen one member with an NOA2 the day after mine with a case number already... SIGH

How long does it take to get an interview date after a case complete?

This varies by country and consulate/embassy. Some people find out within a day or two, others a few weeks, then the few unfortunate that wait a few months (ex: Ghana). To get the best estimate for YOUR country is to search, using the timeline feature, when others got case completes and when they got their interview dates scheduled.

Saylin, do you think is possible to add a column in your time spreadsheet of when NVC schedules an interview? This will help us estimate how long it takes from Case Complete to interview? Unfortunately, the timeline doesn't have this category, it has from NOA2 to Interview. Is hard to estimate when we only have NOA2's date. Your time spreadsheet is a lot better and we can see if RFE's were issued. I know is a lot of work, so is ok if you don't want to add anything else. Thank you for all your Help! :star:
