I'm guessing this is the standard answer the give someone when they don't have a clear answer to give them. I'm sure i'm not the first person to fill out an I-864 form that had previous tax returns with joint income from an ex-spouse. I never did get an answer to this question. I'm still going back and forth. Right now my plan is to enter only my portion of the income from those previous tax years. Fortunately I make more than enough to sponsor my wife and step-daughter and my most recent tax return doesn't reflect any income from my ex.

Don't give up.keep trying.Did y talked to the superviser?

Got changed to MTL case number yes. Called them again today, supervisor said the same thing: we'll get to pay early next week because they still need to physically relabel the file. By next Monday it'll be exactly 10 business days since we got our first case number. Took Saylin's advice and sent an expedite request email today too--although saylin said to wait and send it after we pay the fees, we sent it today anyways cus can't wait

btw--excuse me for venting--why does the operator need to get offended when I asked to speak to a supervisor?

when we first asked the operator for a supervisor, I explained nicely, in plain English, that because we were given the wrong information before, and because we've been waiting for yet another week already, we'd like to check with a supervisor to make sure nothing else is delaying our case. Operator hardly waited til I was finished and said rather abruptly "well I don't understand, I'm confirming with you right now you have to wait another week or two". I repeated what I said, which only made her repeat what she said. In my head I was like ?????!?!? SO I asked, I don't understand why you seem offended by my request, because first of all I'm not holding you personally responsible for your system screw up, and secondly it is my 2 weeks time being wasted, not yours, so may I have your cooperation to connect me to a supervisor? THEN very reluctantly she put me on hold.

Come on, with all due respect, your JOB as a customer service agent is just to answer calls, provide information and transfer calls when requested. Yes there are 18732546245487 calls you need to answer on a daily basis and they may not all be from nice people because everyone's frustrated and tired of waiting. Hello, that is part of your job. And yes you want to screen the calls for supervisors so they dont get bombarded. Do it in a professional, respectful way, not in a way like every caller OWES you something. In fact, your ability to handle difficult calls repeatedly in a nice way is what you're really getting paid for. GEESH. /ends venting tyvm.

A real poutine from MTL sounds real good right now

Wow, that was a ridiculous experience! The operator shouldn't have acted that way at all. Glad she finally transferred you though... headbonk.gifheadbonk.gifheadbonk.gif

I'm guessing this is the standard answer the give someone when they don't have a clear answer to give them. I'm sure i'm not the first person to fill out an I-864 form that had previous tax returns with joint income from an ex-spouse. I never did get an answer to this question. Fortunately I make more than enough to sponsor my wife and step-daughter and my most recent tax return doesn't reflect any income from my ex.

Do what anyone else would do with petitioners/sponsors who file jointly: just report that person's income by using their W2 amount(s). Doesn't matter if they're still married or not to the person.

Hello,

Thanks!

Neither. You have to call an operator and ASK. Or, you can wait and wait. Eventually, a few weeks after your case number has been assigned, they'll mail out an "initial information" package. But, if you want the fast track, I'd highly recommend reading the first two posts. And I mean read EVERYTHING.

Saylin,

I noticed on your spreadsheet that the last entry for NVC Received is 3/9/2012. Are you entering the date the NVC Received the case from USCIS or the date the case number and invoice identification number were assigned?

I know that we represent a small sampling of all the NVC cases, but it seems like there has been a drop off in the number of people who have received NVC case numbers in the past week or so.

Keep in mind, the AOS and IV are two SEPARATE tracks. It doesn't matter where you are in the AOS track (bill showing as paid). It has ZERO reflection on the IV track.

i know but they invoice IV only after they receive the choice agent, which they have not yet

I was just about to read the instructions for joint sponsors since they are often married, yet you can only count one of the incomes.

Thanks again for your wisdom! I would seriously be lost without you and the VJ community!

Technically that 'NVC Received' date is when peoples's case numbers get assigned, not when NVC actually receives the file. I've been meaning to edit it, but the column would be so much wider if I changed it to 'NVC Assigned Case Number' headbonk.gif The only times it's actually when NVC received it is when people don't fill in their signatures completely and that's the only date I can use.

i know but they invoice IV only after they receive the choice agent, which they have not yet

No, it's after they ACCEPT it. Big difference.

Well, of course you're not going to find anything on USCIS about time lines. You're at NVC, whole different step in this process :P

And please go back and RE-READ POST ONE AND TWO IN THIS THREAD. I have already mentioned how long it takes for packages to be accepted.

As for the time frame AFTER a case complete, well, this varies by country. Use this timeline feature to determine how long on average it takes for those from Spain: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list.php?cfl=0&op1=3&op2=d&op3=5&op4=1&op5=5,6,8,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,108,110,111,208,210,211&op6=All&op7=Spain&dfile=No&adv=
