Problem with Birth Certificate, Please Help

Hi all, I will be filing for my AOS next week, from F1. My husband recently got naturalized. My problem is that I do not have a primary birth certificate but managed to get one issued by the Indian Consulate in New York, but it seems quite inadequate. It does not say anything apart from the details already in my passport, plus it also says the details were from my passport. I am receiving a variety of feedback on how valid this will be for USCIS.

Also, the Consulate said it will not be able to give me a non-availability certificate for my birth certificate. What do I do?

I have other supporting secondary proof such as school records and an Indian DL which show my date of birth, apart from my passport. Will these be sufficient if I submit them along with the birth certificate issued by the Indian Consulate and my passport?

I am trying to get a notarized affidavit from my mother in India--my father is not alive--but this may take some time. Can I present the available documents now and then try to get the notarized affidavit later? Or do I need the notarized affidavit at all?

If anyone has had this kind of a problem before, please help with suggestions. I am getting really worried.

Thanks for the link. It still says I will need a non-availability certificate for my birth, which is where I am having problems since the Indian consulate will not give it to me.

You could also check the south asian subforum and see if they have any specifics. Good luck.
