I dunno...my fiancee doesn't understand the whole "Tim Horton's is so wonderful" thing. She never got into it. Maybe because she likes brewing her own coffee (or going to smaller coffee shops) and dislikes eating food that's bad for her, such as doughnuts.

I do have to say that I find it funny that one person mentioned that they are ignored in retail stores. I wish I were so lucky! I go in and I'm swamped by salespeople! I have to fend them off in order to get some breathing room...

A donut is not a donut is not a donut! KK is just way too much sugar and has a gross aftertaste. bleah :P

I do not concur. I guess I have a sweet tooth. KK's donuts are so soft and literally melts in your mouth, even if they are 1 day old. Try doing the same with Tim Hortons.. it's just not the same... they're HARD.

By the way I did not note a gross aftertaste after having KK donuts either.. I guess it depends on the person.

heh...one reason I quit smoking was because I don't like US tobacco products. And in this hick town, there's no Canadian smokes. ;)

KK donuts are soft because they use yeast. Timmy's (and Dunkin's and and and) donuts are "hard" (?) because they're cake. No yeast. Except the tractor tires and the filled donuts.

I like the cherry and choc. walnut crullers. Only 8 more days to go, and I can gorge myself on donuts! ;)

For coffee, im guilty of being more addited to Starbuck coffee now (we dont have any around Montreal, maybe one downtown but never really search) and I alos Discovored Taco Bell ( not any in Quebec again) so i think I will survive !

But, my Fiance came over to Montreal for a visit, and while at the grocery store, he noticed in the cookie section a new type of cookie that he had never seen....FUDGEE-O's!!!! I said OMG dont tell me you dont know those :crying: Oh well, Ill miss Fudgee-o, I dont eat em on a regular basis....but I do have a crave once in a while.

In quebec we have this little pork/pork fat spread called Creton. Im actually trying to get a receipe for that to make some when Ill be in chicago. And I will bring tons of pouches of that powder to make poutine sauce. They dont have cheese curds over there but id Rather have a Poutine with Mozzzarella than nothing!

But I didnt know either about that corn syrup thing in Tomato soup! Isnt Campbell's just campbell's? I reallly love to use that soup to make spaghetti with a ton of Parmesan cheese, when you dont have tomato meet sauce its really handy.

They have Starbucks in Mtl. I had my visa victory coffee at one, lol. Was inside a bookstore that was fairly close to the consulate.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

well you'd think it should be the same, but it isn't. None of it is. Pretty much everything that is made by the same company with the same name and label in both countries have different ingredients. From soup, to ketchup, to breakfast cereals. In the US, its all got high fructose corn syrup in it. The Canadian versions do not. Oh, and Kraft Dinner in the US is yucky. The cheese is different. Even my hubby agreed when I bought some Canadain KD and made some for him.

I miss Arrowroot cookies. What do babies teethe on down here?

I'm 27 days away from a English Toffee Cappucino and a sour cream glazed! woohoo!

However, I have found some acceptable alternatives to hold me over until then. QuikTrip make their own doughnuts now, and they are good -- almost as good as Timmie's! Much much better than those yucky KK's.

Reba, there are arrowroot cookies down here....most likely in the Baby/Toddler aisles.

I made Joel some Poutine last week...well, not like the real thing yanno, but...he still had this look of sublime love on his face when he stuck that first forkful in his mouth. Anything for my baby.

I've never seen them anywhere around here. This area is quite anomalous when it comes to a lot of things. Especially foods. The Greek restaurant doesn't even serve real Greek food. Its more Greek inspired  These delicate Morganton tastebuds can't handle it I suppose ;)

I have such a hard time deciding what foods to eat when I get home. If I want to do it right, I have to drive all over hell and gone. Greek food in Greek town, fish n chips in Stouffville, downtown street meat, etc etc etc...and I only have a few days. *sigh*

Okay, I don't mean to be rude, Reba, but I have to ask...just where do you live?

I mean, I've lived in the U.S. all my life (Houston, TX), and whatever I've wanted within the United States (and many times outside of it, depending on what restaurants or stores I've gone to) has been available to me easily.

I realize that some of the things in the U.S. might be different than in Canada, but when I've visited my fiancee, I didn't notice that great of a difference. The food tasted the same, most of the items were same (with a few name differences here and there), and so on. Maybe I'm just used to living in the 4th largest city in the country, and therefore, more is available to me than most other places in the United States.

Heinz Ketchup in the US is laced with high fructose corn syrup plus a whole lot of other #######...

Heinz Ketchup in Canada is sweetened with white sugar and has way fewer ingredients....

As for availability of products it does depend on where you live....I am sure a lot of the US small town don't have the same products has some of the larger cities do....

Most of what I miss tend to be UK-based types of items. Things available readily in Canada and harder to come by here.

There are alternatives to be sure. HFCS is the worst drawback, IMHO. For that reason alone, next trip to Canada we'll be stocking up.
