My NOA 2 was done about 2 weeks ago, 1 week ago I called the NVC and they even have issued the BGT number (Bogota Embassy). Today I called to see if the package has been forwarded but to my surprise they said that it was under AP (Additional Processing) and they could not tell me when it would be forwarded.......urrrrr

Can the NVC deny an approved K-1?

Is this normal? What does this mean, AP at the NVC? They conduct another review?

If they (NVC) notices that something is not right with the documents or something else do they return the package to CSC or will I get an RFE?

There is no K1. You only have an approved I-129F petition. Once your case clears NVC, is when a visa can be applied for.

Yes, some cases go through AP at NVC. It can take a few days to a few months. It's a black hole. Hopefully one of short duration.

D N Medellin COL, I am sorry to hear about your petition being put on AP(Administrative Processing or also called additional processing). From older threads here at VJ, it appears that the pattern is you get no answers from the NVC when you call, and it takes about 60 days for the petition to clear AP. Maybe someone else reading your question who has already been through AP can share their experience.

Hang in there,

You can read a possible answer at: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/LingChe_NVC_ShortCut

Administrative Processing at NVC

The NVC has a process of randomly pulling a certain, unknown number of "K" visa petitions for further administrative processing. It is unknown what exactly takes place during this process. As it is in AP post interview. It may be background/name checks and/or document verification. Some CSR's at NVC have said that they are "verifying documents". But the most common answer will be that "There is no timeframe for the process". There actually is a very predictable timeframe based on VJers experience that has been shared since December 2008. The average time that a case is held during this AP is around 50 days, give or take a day or so. You can call at least once a week to ask if your file has been released out of AP and forwarded to the consulate. Most petitioners that are pulled for random AP DO receive a standard letter from NVC stating that their file will be forwarded to the embassy "within a week", this is a standard letter which is mailed out whether one is in AP or not. If you find that your case has been held at NVC for longer than a week or so; it is advisable to call and ask directly if your file is in AP.

Every petition undergoes additional AP at NVC.....then every petition undergoes more AP at the Embassy. Don't worry; we took over three weeks to get through NVC.

That is correct but in most cases, the processing at NVC for K visa cases takes less than two weeks.

You have an approved petition, not an approved K-1 visa. You have not even applied for a visa yet.

Yes they can stop it and return it to USCIS. They probably will not. AP is fairly common and typically takes 1-8 weeks and NO I cannot tell you why you were chosen for AP and neither will they.

Not every petition undergoes the additional steps that are being labelled as "AP" on this thread. There is some additional processing which happens at random. My petition experienced this, and it was in this state for about two and half weeks in December 2011. I went from being told it was ready to ship to the embassy to "extra processing" for those two and half weeks, and only then did I get the consistent answer of "on its way to the embassy" from NVC's phone help.

This is true. Every petition undergoes "processing" at the NVC but not all undergo "Additional or Administrative Processing" at the NVC.

We were delayed 50 days for AP. Just keeep calling as often as you choose to confirm that you are out of AP and that the petition has been sent on to your consulate. They say they will notify you when its sent on but in our case they did not.
