So I have a question...I received an enevelope from SS today with his name and my name on it. I think I can see its the card but im not positive. I dont want to open it if its his card but since it has my name should I check to see what it is? If I send it back, should I cross my name off from the window of the envelope and just leave his there to show he is the one who "no longer resides at this address"?

You can open it since it has both your names on it.

If you are returning to sender - Take it to the post office and tell them he does not live with you or at your address - let them put the return to sender appropriate sticker / notice on the letter and they will send it back.

I opened it, its his card. Can I still return it since its opened? You can't even tell I opened it. It wasn't sealed completely

You should open it since it has your name on it. You can open any letter that has your name on it. Like the previous poster said, take it to the post office and return to sender (take a picture of it for record's sake). I'd probably add a cover letter explaining that he no longer lives at your address, and that his whereabouts are unknown.. But that's just me.

I would call immigration and ask what you should do..

He can always solicit the SS card at the SS office without you

Oh, I don't know if it'll help your case one bit, but you could add in the letter that the recipient has been reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for fraudulently attempting to obtain a social.. Lol.

Like I said, I don't know how wise it would be. But something tell me if it gets red flagged somehow he won't be able to just show up at the office and demand it..

That's what I was also thinking

I would personally go to the office and bring the letter myself before he beats you to it!!

Glad to hear you're one step ahead.

I'd probably take out the «he chose to leave» part, just because it adds a personal touch to it. That's not necessarily a bad thing but I tend to think that straightforward, non emotional is better when dealing with government offices.

«The recipient no longer resides at this address and has been reported to ICE for fraudulently attempting to obtain a SSN and other benefits» says it all.

I agree with JH. Leave the personal note out; it makes it more professional good.gif

Consider it done. Its in the mail on its way back with a short and sweet note - to the point. I would have LOVED to say what a jerkoff he is BUT.....I was a good girl ;)
