What's to understand? The constitutional right to bear arms has been interpreted and re-interpreted and argued and re-argued and continues to be the subject of numerous lawsuits, not to mention thousands of books, articles, and judgements. It isn't as if people don't TRY to touch it.

As for banning children's books...there is no jurisdiction in the United States that I am aware of where these books are banned. Book, music, and film-banning in the US is highly unusual and almost never happens at the national level. However, due to the first amendment, this crazy religious nutjob can campaign for it all she likes. Doesn't mean anyone will actually listen.

and yet for some reason church groups were getting bus loads of people to the cinema to go watch Chronicles of Narnia.

I suppose its because Chronicles depicts the witch as an evil person bent on taking over Narnia. Because its not possible AT ALL for a witch to be a good person.

If you're referring to the Mathew Sheppard case, you made several errors:

• the perpetrators WERE NOT "Christian zealots"
  
• They never claimed to be "following the Word of God"
  
• the case was a rather simple robbery-battery-manslaughter (the touts had decided to rob and bash Sheppard because he was puny and looked "easy"--the fact that he was homosexual came in AFTER the arrest)
