A woman who maintains that the Harry Potter books are an attempt to teach children witchcraft is pushing for the second time to have them banned from school libraries.

Laura Mallory, a mother of four from the Atlanta suburb of Loganville, told a Georgia Board of Education officer that the books by British author J.K. Rowling, sought to indoctrinate children as Wiccans, or practitioners of religious witchcraft.

Referring to the recent rash of deadly assaults at schools, Mallory said books that promote evil - as she claims the Potter ones do - help foster the kind of culture where school shootings happen.

That would not happen if students instead read the Bible, Mallory said.

IMO, Enid Blyton's "Secret 7" books are far better than the Harry Potter series--but North Americans have very rarely even heard of Enid Blyton.

This was revealed to me in 1992 when I made the comment that Perot could probably increase his vote margin by dressing in an elf suit and his partner in a bell-tipped cap--and even then, only among those who were first-generation immigrants from UK (only that group even got what I was saying--basically "Perot would make a natural 'Big Ears'").

I saw this posted this morning at WitchVox. This lady'll try anything to get these books banned. She's tried before and failed. She really ought to consider home schooling her son, if she's so concerned about the evils of reading :P

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

So,.... how many of the "Secret 7" series have you read?

Ummm, none. I sort of fell into Harry Potter and got addicted :blush: but that's the only 'childrens' or even 'fantasy' book I read really. Except Pratchett...I really enjoy Pratchett.

Other than that it's history books and the good ol' mystery section for me.
