Where to get a Request Letter for a police certificate?? (Japan requires request)

I need a Japanese police certificate for my K-1 visa and to get one I need a request letter from the US embassy. I've read other people on this forum had to wait for their packet 3's before they could request their police certificate but that delays the whole process by 2-3 months since the Japanese police certificate takes 2-3 months to process!

I am in Japan now and I get the police certificate in person it only takes 2 weeks. Is there any way I could get the request letter right now?

It doesn't take two or three months to get it in person. Mine took a week. You need a letter/paper from USCIS with your case number on- NOA2

Holliver is right, it won't take that long. Mine only took a week and I requested it after I got my NOA2. It might take 2-3 months for applicants requesting certificates outside Japan.

How are we supposed to translate the document, if the document is sealed? How does this work?

You don't need to get it translated, just leave it as it is unsealed. I think I put a sticky note on it saying that Japanese Police Certificates are invalidated when opened, which is why there is no translation (just in case!)

If so, the following page from the Japan Embassy site states, "The police certificate will be issued in duplicate, both in English and Japanese, within two weeks for no fee."

Hello, I just posted something else about this. My husband is Canadian and we have lived in Japan for the past 3 years. We have received our NOA1 and NOA2 from USCIS as well as a checklist and application number and invoice number from NVC. Are these the correct forms that we need to take to get his police check? Just double checking before we head to the police station.

They will look at the letter ( cover letter ) from the embassy ( this is packet 3 ) where your case number is written as well. Bring passport too
