Hello, I am a permanent resident, my sister has her appointment the 21st of March. she graduates at the end pf april as Business administrator, she wants to come before her graduation. She is helping me to move to my husband location since he is military. What are the chances for her to get her visa, and what documents will she need that I can give it to her.

The 'easier' aspect of getting visas is not a change in our laws, but rather adding additional resources to reduce the wait times...section 214b still applies to anyone seeking a tourist visa; there is no sub chapter that states something like..."If the applicant is from Country X or Y, then they're A-OK and should be issued a visa..."

Same rules, just more people applied to the task of interviewing more applicants.

I commented that because I saw it in BBC news, I know how hard it is for ColOmbians, (ColOmbians) to get a visa since the 80s, but my sister does not want to stay here at all, she just wants to come and help me move to my husband's station and come back to Colombia.

Any intention in my post.

And actually I am sorry to contradict you, yes there is suck if you are from X or Y country, people from Europe (most of them) get their visas pretty easy) I know this from a good source of mine who worked in the consulate X ( not Colombia) and she said that they do give more visas in certain contries than others.

No change in visa's for Coumbians, not would I expect any.

lol Thanks!! I have made my mind to my sister for being ColOmbian will be denied :(

... She has to show Very strong ties to Columbia first.

She must have a full-time Job. An introduction letter from her employer would be a good idea. Does she has a family of her own yet? Husband, children,House...et.c? That's like one of the ties the consider strongly. Most especially,if you as a G-card holder would be sending her documentation to help her secure this Visa, How did you obtain your G-card? Sorry for this question, i only asked because it's a fact that USCIS looks into! Especially if your own AOS from B-1 or it's likes. They would think goofy.gif! .... As long as it's not via marriage to a US citizen recently, she should be fine...Again this is just my opinion and contribution. Pray about it, Gather all relevant paper-work you both need, and you should be fine.

Good luck...

Two friends from college (a man and a woman who applied in different dates) got their tourist visa without any problems. They are both single, no children, and have full time jobs.

I understand what you mean when you say that things have changed some for Colombians applying to B2 visas. I went to Colombia in August and saw someone from the US Embassy on the news who said that they have improved the visa application process so it is faster and more efficient, also that they know the importance of tourism for the US economy --- in other words, they want people to visit and spend money, of course!! (he didn't say it like that though).

Some of the documents are: school enrollment certification, employment certification including salary, vehicle registration, lease agreements, bank statements, land titles, pay slips, etc.

I would appreciate it if you let us know how it goes. My parents will be applying for a visitor visa soon, they are still gathering some of the documents and trying to find the best time to travel to Bogota for the interview.

Best of luck!

Paola.

A few years ago I heard the same thing on a Caracol Radio interview where the US ambassador was encouraging Colombians to apply for tourist visas because they were giving less denials. Not true at all, their denial rate is still at a 90% and nothing has changed, which makes me think they were just trying to get Colombians to pay the fee for a visa that they were probably not going to get anyway, it's all about money. However, keep in mind that it's a ####### shoot, some people may have all the evidence in the world and be denied, others may go there with nothing and are approved, so it's very hard to predict the outcome. I have cousins who were in the same position as your sister and were flat out denied, the CO didn't even care to see the evidence they had brought with them. On the other hand, my best friend was also in a similar situation and was given her visa without questions and without looking at the evidence. So you just never know.

The best thing to do is to go to the interview expecting to be denied so the blow is not as painful. If she's denied, everybody was ready for it, but if she's approved, then it's a great surprise.

Good luck!

Diana
