I'm a little confused......

My wife had her waiver interview this past Wednesday. Her initial interview was November 1st. Took a LONG time (received the "blue" paper on December 6th, scheduled the waiver interview the same day for February 22nd)for the waiver interview to be scheduled after I sent in a document that was missing. I traveled to Juarez from Acapulco with my wife for the waiver interview. She was at the "window" for only 10 minutes she said. The officer took all the information and the money but gave her passport back to my wife. They did not read anything the officer just made sure everything was there. The officer that took the information told her that the I-601 application and letter will be reviewed and she will receive a response via courier within 2-10 weeks. Once her waiver is approved, instructions will be given so we can schedule an additional appointment for her to return for her visa. Is this correct? I'm surprised they gave her passport back. I have not read about this situation anywhere on VJ from other individuals that have applied for waivers in Juarez. Please reply!

I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks!

When they notified my wife of her need for a 601 they sent back her passport via courier and a bit later we received a letter in the mail stating that we needed a 601 and why. The giving back the passport is normal operating I believe. Once our waiver was approved they requested the passport and other info (medical expired so they wanted new medical) and that's where we're at now,, at the embassy waiting on the visa issuance. Best of luck!!

My wife had her waiver appt on 2/28 and they did not take her passport. As far as we know depending on where your 601 package goes for approval they may or may not take your passport. Many approvals are coming from Mex city, Moneterey Mex, and even California. There is something new in Juarez everyday, but yes some passports are being taken and some are not. For passports that are not taken we should receive an answer (is what they tell you at the consulate) between 4-8 weeks roughly (approval/ref etc). Then we wait for an "instructions" letter, where we are asked to submit the passport back to Juarez through DHL. And after a few weeks we should get the famous package delievered by DHL with our ticket back home (passport along with visa)!!! Hope this helps, but like I said thing change day by day..Good luck.
