My husband was diagnosed with Chron's disease when he was 12 years old. After a long battle between meds and treaments, he started recovering when he was 18, not until he was 22 he was really able to take care of himself. I met him when he was 25, full of life with lot of dreams ahead, even though he had been laid off from his 2 part time jobs, still managed to finish his career. We got married, I stayed here, our dreams to work, to have our family, to get our little house... Job market is low in Michigan and also because of his health he wasn't able to do weight requires job, so he got to start with his own business in video recording and bummer... chron´s appears again in his life. Since last July 2011 he had lot of flare ups, pain, loss of weight, lack of appetite. No work, no medical insurance, application for disability income denied... and he is still sick. And bills keep piling up... Since then his dream of building his own business has been put aside. I just want he gets better, that's all I ask for. I have been so many times very scared of losing him, and only God knows how loud I have cried asking him for a door light. Thanks God I am working and that helps to provide the basics but sometimes I am in between to let my job to take care of him. I just thank to all from the bottom of my heart and knowing out there is someone listening.

Have his Dr. even mention putting him on REMICADE® treatment. I know this works quite well for asome patients.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... endless!!! I pray also your process will go smooth!

Have his Dr. even mention putting him on REMICADE® treatment. I know this works quite well for asome patients.

He hasn't got the ramicade, only steroids and prednisone

My prayers go to you both. I have found my happiness and would hate for a sickness to come over me and burden my babe.

than you!!! I wish nothing bad happen to you too, only good and specially being blessed with good health!

Approach the Doctor about the REMICADE® treatment, large teaching hospitals does this treatment. It's an infusion drug, along the line of cancer treatment. Your husband should be eligible for some type of medicaid program. He is the USC, right.

I'm sorry his medical condition has returned, I certainly hope he gets better soon and has as much of a recovery as medically possible.

I am sorry to hear this. Take each day at a time. And as the caregiver make sure you get enough sleep and rest or else your health will fail. Is there any family in the area that can help out? There are some good advice given in previous posts about REMICADE® treatment that you can look into.

I'm sorry he is suffering so. You say he was not approved for disability...did he appeal the decision? 90% of all disability cases are initially denied. Look into whether he still has time to appeal. Get an attorney...there is no cost other than for medical records and such, other than that, they don't get paid unless the case is won and then they get a percentage of back pay. Look into it. I have a dear friend with Crohns. She does her best to work when she can...but there are times she simply can't. Good luck.

I thought my situation was lousy in this hospital bed, I'm a bit rusty but here goes:

LORD, you are the King of Kings, The Sovereign Lord of All and to you we turn for succor for ailing brother Ryan and his wife, Priscy. You are the well-spring from which all goodness and light flow. It is you who led the Children of Israel out of the darkness of bondage, it is you hears the cries of the children and adults alike and it is you alone who brings comfort the stricken and powerless. LORD, many miracles have you done, your compassion and mercy extend beyond the Heavens and we beseech you one more time to spread your Divine Light on this poor man and family and restore him to health so he may remember you and become a true and faithful servant in your cause. Amen.

I am sorry for his medical condition. It can be life threatening at times

Surgery is usually an option. Not many young people like to have a colostomy bag but if it makes them less sick and keeps death away it is an alternative.

Good Luck

Crohn's is an auto-immune disease, so it's the body's own immune system going haywire. There are theories out there that suggest such responses by our immune system attacking our own bodies is because up until the last century, our hygiene wasn't so great. There are experimental alternatives like introducing parasites into the intestine. Maintaining healthy intestinal flora can also help alleviate the symptoms.

Scientists believe that chronic imbalances in the intestinal flora set off a chain of events that, in the end, damages the intestinal mucosa. This theory is strongly supported by the parallel in the number of cases of Crohn's and other inflammatory bowel disorders and use of antibiotics over the last 50 years. In turn, it has also been found that the incidence of Crohn's disease is higher in cultures consuming a "western diet", while it is virtually non-existent in cultures consuming a more primitive diet.

Studies also reveal that patients with Crohn's disease were found to be individuals who habitually ate, prior to the onset of symptoms, more refined sugar, less raw fruits, vegetables and dietary fiber when compared to their healthy counterparts.

While the exact causes of Crohn's disease is still unclear, there is much that can be done to lessen symptoms and even put this disorder into remission.

Recommendations for Wellness

  • An elimination diet, such as Gottschall's Specific Carbohydrate Diet have been shown to reduce the symptoms experienced within 3 - 12 weeks.
  • Avoid sugar, both white sugars and the sugars contained in white flour, white rice etc.
  • Keep a food/flair-up journal. Identify foods you are eating, or your emotional state just before and during a "flair-up". In time, you may find a pattern forming.
  • To reduce intestinal inflammation and begin the healing process, try products such as Intestinal Sooth & Build, CLT-X, marshmallow root, slippery elm, aloe vera juice or "Robert's Formula".
  • Flax seed oil and omega 3 oil are known to greatly reduce inflammation. If you find you have a hard time digesting it, try freezing the gel caps before taking them.
  • Extra vitamins and minerals are important at this time, especially if you are not absorbing nutrients correctly. Incorporate a liquid meal replacement, one that is loaded with vitamins, minerals and protein, and low in sugar, into your diet as well as taking a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement.
  • Find a good mineral supplement such as alfalfa, barley greens, liquid chlorophyll, noni juice or colloidal minerals. Many of these come in a powdered form that you can mix with water or juice.
  • Because of blood loss due to rectal bleeding and the anemia associated with it, incorporation of additional iron is important. Look to find an herbal iron alternative, especially one that comes in liquid form for better/easier assimilation. If you decide to look to a single herb, yellow dock would be a good choice. A combination such as I-X is another excellent source of iron. (Consult with your health care provider before introducing additional iron into your diet.)
  • Starting a program of re-inoculating the intestinal tract with friendly bacteria, such as acidophilus, can enhance recovery and restore bowel function to normal.
