Immigration to another country: New Forum?

Do we get enough topics to open a forum for immigration of US Citizens to another country?

The only ones I am aware of are in the Canada Regional forum with Can Am couples deciding to live in Canada instead of the US after a while in the US. I am sure there are a few in other regional forums although I suspect the Canada option is probably higher due to proximity. The individual requirements for immigrating to other countries are so variable I don't know if a separate forum would be helpful, or if it would be best to have threads in the appropriate Regional forums.

Over the years I have heard someone ask maybe a couple of times that I remember. I remember once someone asking to the U.K. Also have seen it when the Visa is denied in the Vietnam forum the questions get asked.

I don't think so- it couldn't really be just one forum because immigration to each country is so different, at least the legal/ visa part. When we get such questions now, they usually get posted int he regional forums, which is the best place for them.

There may be merit in a "Living Abroad" forum, which could encompass visa questions, travelling, as well as dealing with US ex-pat homesickness, but I think most such posts would still be posted in the regionals.

I know people ask questions once or twice in the regionals (like others said) about how to get rid of their GC or what to when they get home, but there are other forums that deal with going back the other way so I wouldn't think so.

It gets asked occasionally in the UK sub-forum, and people are duly directed to uk-yankee.com.

I agree that this isn't something VJ should be getting into. VJ is so large and sprawling now as it is, and at heart it is about supporting people immigrating to the US, not emigrating from it. I think things could easily get confused. VJ has no need to be all things to all people, and should focus on what it already does well.

You have a lot of Kano husbands fully expecting to retire in the Philippines with their Pinay wives, so the forum could be found interesting by the number of us in that category.

Then there is the whole crowd that say life is so much better in Europe, Australia, and Canada. Perhaps a few of those would convince their US spouses to emigrate to those superior nations.

I visit a site often called thaivisa.com. They have the main forum that discusses people seeking visas to Thailand, and then another forum for people seeking visas to everywhere else. I know of a few members here that are also members there.

Seems like a good idea. Can't see why it would hurt.

I am interested in moving to Latin America in the future. I am on sites where there are ex-pats, sites where there is a significant amount of web traffic composed of people living in the foreign country or looking to leave the US. It seems that 99% of the traffic on VJ is concerned with immigrating to the US. That being said, I do not think it would hurt however, given the level of moderation on VJ, it seems it would be a challenge to moderate given the various foreign jurisdictions throughout the world. If you did make that forum, I would follow it! Ex-pat is in my future, God willing...

If a sub forum is getting asked the questions then maybe someone could make a thread explaining the process going moving to that country. Then a mod can sticky the thread. Can even name the stickied thread something where search engines can take anyone interested and looking. That would bring traffic to this site and increase revenue a tad. Not to mention bringing the profile of the site up more.

Or I have seen other sites that have forums that was for immigration to a particular country. The example from before thaivisa.com. You can maybe link to them and they will link to you. Hell even have someone make a thread and join from another visa site. That would create an avenue for both sites to increase in several ways.

You can also do a franchise of Visa Journey's. Make a site called Visa Journey France or whatever country. The branding is pretty good and can be enlarged many fold. Hell even sell T-shirts. I may buy one that says "I survived my Visa Journey."

Wanted to add. You need a catchy logo. Maybe a contest to come up with one.
