Hello,

My girlfriend and I of 4 years are looking to get married within the year, and I am thinking of proposing next weekend, but we were talking and she just applied for her OPT from the college. She graduates in May. Can she work with the K1 and OPT or does she have to discard one of them ... please let me know exactly what needs to be done? She thinks she was told by her adviser that she can't work with a K-1 ... I could use all the information possible, please & thank you!

K-1 is a visa to enter the country and get married and apply to stay. Your gf is already in the country. You can get married and file to adjust her status. Look at the guides up top.

Yes and yes. You can start with this guide. http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2

There are rules to all of this, so keep reading and try to put together the pieces and figure out the best path for you. Most people in your situation would do the above, but if she needs to travel home at a moment's notice, for instance, another path might work better for you. Good luck.
