Tricare & Moving to the USA

Hey all!

I love this new military sub forum!

Anyways i have a few questions i dont know if anyone can help me with..

First:

Tricare. I was told i may be able to claim back the costs of my medical exam once i got back to the states? Has anyone tried to do this?

Also, if my husband wasnt on a mission at the moment then he would of come here to visit me for my interview and would be able to fly home with me which would mean my airline would allow me to bring up to 3 bags, or if i was traveling alone on military business i could do that also, but since i am not and he can not be here do you know if there are any exceptions because its going to cost me a total of about $200-$300 on my luggage which would of been free if my husband could leave his duty station? Im asuming since we arent PCSing then the army isnt going to cover any of my shipping costs to get my stuff over to the states and i wont be able to claim any moving costs back once i get to post. Does anyone know of any kind of programs or exceptions we could look into to get some help on this as we are running on a very tight budget after all the visa fees?

No expenses will be covered by the military for your move. When he requested permission from the Army to marry you he was most likely presented with some documentation that states they are not responsible for any expenses incurred in moving you to the States.

As far as Tricare, once he enrolls you and you're stateside you could request it they might honor it. All depends if you were already enrolled in Tricare or not at the time of your exam.

When did they add this forum?? I do love it, too!!

1. Tricare won't cover your costs.

2. I didn't pay baggage allowance when I arrived because my flights were booked as one sector. When I POE'd at LAX and made my domestic connection, I had to show my ticket for the international leg.

I forgot to add earlier because I was so excited that there is a military forum, as an acquired dependent they won't cover any costs associated with your move. No immigration fees are covered either, unfortunately.

Actually, that's not entirely true per se. There are many, many cases where the soldier turned the receipts for visa petition and medical screening in with Finance at the gaining duty station and got reimbursed. E. g. if a soldier is stationed in Germany and gets married, then gets orders to go stateside and the spouse is on the orders, he can claim the costs for her visa as well as the costs for the medical required for the visa.

Seriously? How long has that been in place? Another recruiter's wife just came from Germany and no reimbursement of fees? Is there a timeframe that they have to claim?

I've heard from people getting re-imbursed ever since I started getting involved in the whole visa matter about five years ago

We didn't get anything (didn't even try, to be honest) because I wasn't on the hubs' orders so we paid for the move, visa and medical out of pocket. But when the spouse is on the orders to PCS from overseas to stateside, you can claim the expenses. And most people I've talked to, did indeed get re-imbursed from the gaining duty station. People that ETSed from overseas to stateside have claimed it from their old duty station and got re-imbursed, too.
