I recently received a noa2 and a notification from the embassy that they were beginning to process the k1 paperwork it says that we will need to bring the documents to the interview but it is not clear if there is a deadline. Is there a certain amount of time we have to get the paperwork ready or when our appointment would be? I am an American citizen and live in Florida would I be required to travel to bogota for the interview or does only my fiancée need to attend the consulate meeting with the paperwork?

Hi Mythical85, congrats on getting your approval. You should be receiving a letter from the Department of Homeland Security in mail notifying you that your petition has been approved. When I look at my NOA2, it says it is valid for 4 months from the notice date, so I have to assume you would have 4 months to act.

It's not required for you to be at the interview, but if you go though many of the posts on this site, you will see that you going with her to the interview increases your chances of success, so I would go...I also live in Florida and am scheduled for an interview this March.

The interview is for your Fiancee, as to when you need to confirm your interview date, some embassies schedule for you (and send your fiancee an appointment letter) some let you do it. You may want to post this question on your country specific forum for much better answers regarding that embassy.

The petiton approval (I-129F) comes from USCIS, and he has already received the I-797 (NOA2), plus he has received notice from the embassy so his petition has already went through NVC and is at their embassy.

Very quick response as I only submitted the k1 in October. I have surgery coming up which is why I was wondering how long we had to act. The embassy is in bogota.

Mythical85, I thought from your post that you just recieved your NOA2, which is not the same thing as getting a notice from the Embassy. If you just found out about your NOA2, the petition has to pass through the National Visa Center first, then it will get sent to the embassy. I tried to look at your timeline, but it does not appear you have started one yet...:-) If you have not already, call the NVC and give them your eMail address and the eMail address of your fiance'. The embassy will send your fiance' an eMail letting her know they have received the petition and you can schedule your interview, however, if you already have a BGT number, you can schedule your appointment now.

I have the BGT what is the deadline to setup the appointment once I have that number? Is that something I will need to contact the consulate with?

Ok, so should be good to go for setting up your interview. Here is the link to the Embassy Web site: http://bogota.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

Click the link to the right "Schedule Interviews", but before you do that, click on "Interview" to download the "Instructions Package" for K Visas. There are instructions on how to schedule your interview. As for the deadline, I think you have 4 months from your NOA2 date to do your interview.

About going to the interview with your fiancee, read up on that specific embassy's habits. Some places don't want any extra people and others seem to deny everyone who shows up solo. Even within the same country, the different embassies has their own "protocols". Good luck!

EminTX, that's good advice. In the case of the embassy in Bogota Colombia, they say the Petitioner is welcome to go to the interview, and from reading some of the reviews for that embassy, it seems like it does help for the petitioner to be there.

in the letter that your fiancee received included forms that she has to fill up and some more forms she has to download and fill up from their website, and a checklist of documents that she needs to bring on the interview. if she already have all the documents with her then she has to mail the readiness form, then the embassy will mail the appointment for interview but before the interview she has to have the medical exam because she will bring with her the result on the interview. it takes a week for the medical result. i recieved my interview appointment on jan 27, 2012 had my medical the next day. and had my interview on feb 22, 2012. i got my visa approved and im flying on the 16th march.

Well I contacted the embassy and it appears we have about 4 months to set up the interview, I am getting all my financial information together. It is not clear if I am required to be there or not, I would think it would help for the interview. The big issue right now is getting time off work right now. We are both very happy about the interview though a little nervous because we just want a definite answer from the consulate. We have many pictures, videos and evidence going back a year so I think we just need to pray a lot and make this happen and see what the embassy says. The national visa center said something like they think I am required to be there but it is still not very clear from the email.
