With fuel prices up I thought there might be a few takers to see can win at hyper-miling, that is maximising your fuel effiency through conservative driving. Since we all have different cars, we should judge effiency on the spread between your actual fuel economy and the EPA rating for your car. So lets work out some math:

Determine how much of your driving is city vs highway. My drive is 16.4 miles total and from highway junction to junctions its 14.1 miles and my city distance is 2.3. My highway EPA mileage is 29 and my city mileage is 22.

14.1/16.4 x 29 = 24.94

2.3/16.4 x 22 = 3.09

24.94+3.09 = 28.03

28.03 is my base mileage.

So tonight I drove home carefully extending my mileage and hit 34.1 as I pulled into my home. Thus my score is 34.1-28.03= 6.07 MPG

Just post your base mileage and your actual and lets see who can milk the most out of their engine. (This is nerdy I know)

humm ....

some days my drive is 20 miles one way ... others 30. (depends on which office)

lets see for today:

highway miles

70 mph

45 mpg (today each way)

i've had as high as 52 mpg on longer trips at 70 mph

typical mileage between fill-ups ... 525 - 550

if it's a long road trip ... easily 600+ per tank

vehicle:

tdi sportwagen w/ 6m

epa: 32/41
