Dear VJ members,

My wife has an appointment for her biometrics. On her notice (addressed to her new married name), it states she needs to bring a gov. issued ID. The only ID she has is her expired passport (with her maiden name). Will her expired passport be enough since it is not valid? Also, since her passport is in her maiden name, will that be a problem since the notice lists her new married name? She is not able to renew her passport since we looked into it and it is not only a lenghty process but also not possible at this moment in time (without going into a long explanation). Any help/advice would be great!

I have read here a couple of times that an expired Passport would suffice for that. So let her go ahead and try and take a copy of marriage certify that shows her previous and new name.

I went in with a passport that had my maiden name.. it didn´t seem to be a problem. They didn´t even ask the marriage certificate but just in case take it with you. If the passport is not valid anymore, I don´t know the answer to that, but I would think they know how difficult it is for a foreigner to get a new passport here. They didn´t even look at my passport very closely so I´m not sure if they would have noticed if it was valid or not. Good luck!

Not sure about the expired passport, but I feel like I've read on here that that should work. I only had my (unexpired) passport and they asked me for something with the married name, I had the marriage certificate and that was good enough for them.

Hey SvetlanaR,

It looks like we are going through the same process. I'm a USC and my wife is Czech. Have you guys looked into changing her name on her czech passport? Do you have any plans to travel to czech in the near future? I'm wondering what kind of problems we could encounter if we try on her old passport with her maiden name.
