Hi guys

I've been on this forum a bit, read a lot of useful info, especially by Vanessa. Thank you guys!

We put in our K-1 form at the end of Sept 2011, got NOA1 early Oct, and waited eagerly for NOA2 which arrived on Valentine's Day! (In USA, by mail). So i've booked medical on March 13th in Sydney with Dr Joseph Waks, they are asking some info to be sent asap before the medical. One of them is my case number.

1. Now looking at the NOV2 letter (aka I-797), under Beneficiary (my name) there's a number starting with A, is that the case number?

2. I know i will get police check (by using P900 form?) asap WHILE waiting for Packet 3 to arrive here in my address in Sydney? any other things I need to prepare now? passport photos? the DS156 & 156K forms?

3. My fiance in USA should also send me his I-134 form (he got most of the paperwork for it already), but does he send me originals of those supporting documents or copy? what else does he need to send me? copy or original? I already have a copy of our K1 form.

4. Further down the track, i will pay at the interview, I can only use USD? cash or cheque form?

Any other things I missed? please let me know, appreciate your time!

Your case number is applied by the NVC, it will start with SYD2012xxxxxx and it will be in the letter your fiance recieves from NVC and also on your Packet 3. Packet 3 comes to you via email, it will go to your fiance, then he can forward it to you. Packet 4 will come to you if you fill in the form requesting that, in your packet 3.

You can call NVC, the number is listed in a thread on the forums, search for Contacting NVC it should come up with all the info you need. They can give you your case number.

Where you can supply originals for the I-134 you can. I did, so don't know what would happen if you did not.

You pay for the interview when you have received packet 4 BEFORE the interview at Aussiepost.

Congratulations on getting this far...

You pay the fee at Australia Post, as Chippy's girl mentioned, in Australian dollars, and bring the receipt from Australia Post to the interview.

The I-134 form will need to be an original, but the supporting documents can be copies (scans/faxes etc).

You should get your police certificate ordered now, as it can take a few weeks to receive.

Good luck!

You're welcome first of all :)

1. No. The A number is your "Alien number". DO NOT lose that original NOA2, make sure you photocopy it and scan it so you have digital copies. A photocopy of it will be needed for the AOS stage and to get a replacement is around $400... some people have actually had to pay this fee :S Follow others advice about contacting NVC to try and get your case number (starting with SYD2012...) that is unless you have since received the NVC letter (has a barcode on it)

2. The police check specific for your state can be applied for now. Sometimes they take a while so applying sooner rather than later will help you return P3 quicker. I would get started on ALL the documents that P3 asks for, just don't date them until you are going to send them. Here is the P3 info: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/fiance_niv_appl.html (this is the link they will email you as P3).

3. Honestly the K1 interview is going to be a lot easier than you think. Tell him to send you the original I-134, send you the original supporting documents (make copies). If there's anything specifically that you want returned to you at the interview make a note of it and bring photocopies (they will return your birth cert and other originals)

4. You pay at Australia post in AUD cash/card and they'll tell you on the interview letter how much that is at the moment (they don't update the conversion daily so it's unlikely to be exactly the current conversion rate).

HI guys thank you for the prompt replies!

The urgent question now is, since we got NOA2 on Feb 14, if I call NVC now, will they have the case number ready? If not, then that will affect my medical (I think)????!?! :hehe:

Just try calling the NVC and see if it has been assigned yet - hit or miss as to yes or no. They took 12 days from NOA2 to assign me a number, but I have seen it take over a month for other people.

I don't know what effect it will have on your medical. From what I heard, Dr Waks is pretty strict on having the case number, which is why I went to the other doctor in Sydney as he could care less about it ( I believe he is retired now though), since I booked the medical before I had a case number (I actually got it the day of the medical lol).

If you don't get the case number, then maybe you will need to call Dr Waks and tell them the situation. They may make you reschedule, or maybe they will just let you bring the number to the medical.

Can anyone confirm if Dr. Miller has retired or not and if so is there a replacement for him? I was planing on using him to get my medical check.

If I need to use Dr. Waks does he definitely require the case number before we make the appointment?

I have read on this site that he does prefer to have it but will do it without it does anyone know for sure?

I had heard that Dr Millar had retired from someone else here on VJ - didn't know 100% myself. However, the US Embassy Canberra has an updated (Jan 2012) panel physicians list on their website and he isn't on it. Looks like there is a new doctor on the list for NSW though - a Dr Celina Rappaport. It says though that she isn't available until mid to late March.

Here's the list Australian Panel Physicians list Jan 2012

ooooh I can call NVC? ok I will tomorrow.

I called Dr Waks reception, she said it's ok that I don't have the case number now (2 weeks before the appt) but I don't know if they'd be happy if I still don't have it on the day :hehe:

Tomorrow i will try to go to my local police station (Kings Cross), they said it's draw of luck if they got someone to do the procedure, I can't book. I tried city police, they said they usually do it on the weekend and only for locals.

Glad you got your case number.

It's a little odd that the police station wouldn't give you an appt to come and do the fingerprints. That's the reason why they should give you an appt - so that you can be sure that someone is available to do it! My local station required me to have an appt to do mine (they did it on a Saturday).

Word of advice....try to get the police check done ASAP. NSW is notorious for taking much longer than they tell you it should take. They told me 7-10days and it took them 25. I've seen others here on VJ say it took them about 3-4weeks also. It ended up delaying my sending of paperwork to the NVC because I was still waiting on PCC.

Thank you KLS! Yes it's odd, today I called Kings Cross, they said i can't do it today, because 'someone is in custody, so they can't take me to that part of the building or something like that'. That's their reason for why I can't make appt since they don't know if someone will be in custody that day or not.

I will try tomorrow.

and my fiance got packet 3 in email today!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay~~~~~~~ Thank God for this speed! I really should get the police check done asap. I did heaps before for my employment, yes it can be slow.
