This may be a dumb question and not an issue all. It was just something I thought about.

My fiance got her K-1 VISA. She is currently searching for a plane ticket to come from Japan to the US. Round Trip tickets are cheaper than One-Way tickets... because, you know, that makes total sense... (sarcasm)

Anyway, is it or has it ever been an issue for a K-1 VISA holder to enter the US with a Round Trip ticket but then never make use of the return trip and let it expire instead of a One-Way Ticket? I guess what I am asking is will the officer at the border give her trouble for having a Round Trip ticket when she has a K-1 VISA? Will it raise his ire? Like maybe they might think, you're coming over her to get a green card then leave or something. And then give her a hard time or turn her around. I know, it sounds dumb, but bureaucracy can be dumb sometimes.

Just a thought. Let me know if anyone can comment. Thanks so much people!

It's perfectly fine to buy either one. A lot of people buy round trip tickets as it is often a lot cheaper. I was going to but ended up getting lucky and finding a good one way one :) If you do buy a round trip ticket though, make sure you cancel the return flight or make it for a date quite far ahead in the future. For instance, if you get the return ticket and the return date is a week later and you didn't cancel your ticket than immigration may still think that you left the country.

Finally time for AOS.......

Hey!! Buying a round-trip ticket will not be a problem...if they ask just tell them the truth, it was CHEAPER to buy a round trip ticket (I really don't understand this concept but hey, who am I lol) I was lucky to find a one way but they didn't even ask to see my tickets at the POE anyway :)

Exactly as Travis and Meghan said. Buy whichever is cheaper, but if you buy a roundtrip ticket, make sure you cancel the second leg before the return date comes. Airlines are required to submit the passenger list to the DHS. It has been reported already of K1 holders who were denied AOS because they were believed to have left the country (although they had not) and they had to prove that in fact they never had.

They will not ask about her ticket at the POE: the whole point of asking about it is to make sure that the non-immigrant traveler has already planned to leave before his or her visa expires. K1 visa holders, although technically entering as non immigrants (meaning that they still need to adjust their status to stay permanently) have a clear intent of remaining indefinitely and become permanent residents. Therefore, nobody will be interested in seeing the plane ticket.
