I have been wondering about how many visa apps each country work load is during a each month as for me I am mostly interested in kyiv ukraine and today I talk with my lady and told her I am going try my very best join her in the interview this summer... also would I be wrong to think it would help get approved as would surely show relationship

My understanding is that the petition is supposed to be based on evidence of meeting and background checks and if you come to the interview or not is not supposed to have a bearing on the outcome but, personally, I think it would look much better if you can go. I will be with my finacee when she has her interview but, I am doing it more for moarl support for her then for the embassy. I just can<t imagine how nervous she will be or how difficult it is to go there alone. I am in a position to be able to travel so, it is not a hardship on me.

Couldn't even guess at the number of visa applications and you shouldn't either. It is what it is and will be what it will be.

Kiev does allow the UCS to attend and for sure it does show some sign of committment; but the evidence brought with and her answers to some questions are most important. Kiev is considered an easy Embassy but, like all COs, they are highly trained and do vet out the scams.

Your petition goes to USCIS along with ALL petitions from all countries. The processing of petitions is the same regardless of which country your fiancee is in. After the petition is approved it is forwarded to the consulate (Kiev in your case) and you schedule an interview. This varies on the work load at the time which varies from time to time in the year. Kiev usually schedules interviews within 1-8 weeks. I know, big range, but that is how it is.

If you file the petition today, in February, getting her here by the end of the summer is optimistic. I filed our petition in March and Alla arrived in September, that was in 2008. It seems to be going much slower currently. By the end of this year is more realistic.

I am not sure what you mean about proof of relationship. The best you can do to make this go quicker is make sure everything is prepared properly before you send it. an extra day or two at this end can save many weeks on the other end.

EDIT, Oh OK, join her at the interview. Kiev allows it and I highly recommend it. It will make little if any difference in a visa approval. It is good for her moral support and the celebration for getting a visa approved is best not to be missed! :P

I went to the interview, and the CO was fine with it. He did the entire three minute interview in English, and spoke to me at least as much as Vika. Big points with the wife for going too :D

You haven't even filled in your VJ timeline, so how can we even help you?

Stop being so mysterious and acknowledge your and your fiance's existence. Maybe you'll make very good friends here who will help you.

I got call from my lawyer last night she tells me march 1st she plans to send the k1 paper work. Here I thought lawyers would be more on the ball seem all they do is drag thier feet or most I see does not like she will get more money as was agreed flat fee

Thanks for doing a timeline. It seems to be conventional wisdom around here that a lawyer isn't really necessary if you follow the guides on VJ. We did all the paperwork ourselves and had no problems. The K-1 applicant only has to prove that 1) You met the beneficiary face-to-face during the past two years, and 2) you intend to marry withing 90 days of the beneficiary arriving in the US. The number of forms and list of documents make it seem tougher than it is. Good luck!

Filling out forms with personal information you give them and copying personal documents YOU give them is only worth so much. You are waiting for her to get around to it.

Flat fee for what? What about the AOS and RoC and citizenship? All of those are more difficult than the visa petition and she will not be at the interview, nope, your fiancee gets to do that herself. If you hired her to do trhis part, she is pretty sure you will be back to give more. Buy your wife a car instead.

BTW, more photos of Sveta please! :P

Figure 6 months for petition approval from whenever the lawyer gets around to filing it. After that there is nothing more a lawyer can do to hurt you. Add another 2 months for NVC and the consulate. She gets her visa November-ish. Possibly sooner but do not count on it.

The ONLY three guarantees by using a lawyer is:

1. You will spend more money

2. You will still do 100% of all the work

3. You will add time onto the entire process.

Other than these guarantees, you could do it all yourself!

Oh... and welcome to the RUB forum.
