When I applied for my permit I had my EAD card and my drivers permit had red lettering on top of it saying temporary visitor and it expired the day my EAD expires. I have now been approved for my Green card and I want to learn to drive but how do I go about removing the temporary visitor status on my drivers permit? And can I still use it to learn to drive or should I get the temporary visitor status removed before learning to drive?

Btw I'm in new York

I don't know how the process works in NY, but go back to the motor vehicles dept., and show your GC with the expired learners permit. Since that one is expired, they'll probably just renew your permit without that restriction now that you have the GC.

You can not use that expired learners permit to learn to drive, once you get it renewed you can. Most likely the "temporary visitor" status will be removed once you produce your GC.

Thanks for your reply but my permit is not expired until 10/12

Ok, then go back when you have your GC to have them remove the "temporary visit" status. You can still use it to learn to drive with the current status.
