Take a look at the guides, and please disregard the K-3 visa. If you look at the comparason chart the Cr-1 spousal visa is actually roughly $800 cheaper than the K-1 although it takes slightly longer, the Cr-1 allows for immediate work and travel.

Good luck

I'm trying to decide which is a better visa to apply for. Which is easier to get? I believe the K1 visa is about $420 cheaper because you don't have to pay the petition I-130 form. I need advice!

They don't do K-3s any more; it's the CR-1. The latter is cheaper but takes longer. Cost versus schedule; your choice.

Thanks for your help. Do you happen to know where there is a chart that breaks down the costs? I thought I figured out the costs of the visas but my numbers were much less money than what this table you sent me shows. Maybe a break down money chart of all the costs?

Also, when did the K-3 get thrown out? I have read a great deal about the k3 visa so not sure why there are so many people that do not know it is no longer possible.

thanks!

The K3 is still on the books and USCIS will certainly accept the petition and even approve it.

NVC is the one that will close it down, since February 2010 I think? When we filed, USCIS was processing I130 and I129F petitions 6-8 weeks AFTER stand-alone I130s, even now they are processed at a much slower rate. USCIS will take your I130 out of the queque, marry it up with the I129F petition and place it at the back of the line - losing any time you've gained. Basically your processing time gets reset with the filing of an I129F

Don't forget that the costs include much more than the filing fee; the medical, passport and passport photos, airline tickets, the postage for the packages, getting police certificates and birth certifcates can add hundredes of dollars to this process.

Here are the basic fees (forms only) for the CR-1

I-130 = 420 dollars

DS230 = 404 dollars

I-864 = 88 dollars

Good lcuk
