AP is very uncommon for British citizens.

Were you by any chance born in a high fraud country? Do you have an Arabic sounding name? Have you previously held a different citizenship?

These are common reasons for cases going into AP.

Is the beneficiary male or female?

It is very common for male applicants from Pakistan/India and nearby territories to go through this AP process. Your parents being Pakistani is enough reason for them to do it. There is no way around it. Plain and simple they want to make sure you are not involved in any illegitimate activities.

You have no choice but to wait it out. Consider yourself lucky your case is at the British consulate, so it will hopefully be relatively faster than usual. Some male applicants from the Pakistani consulate have been stuck in AP for over a year.

Hi,Thank you for your quick reply...I am born in England but my parents are both born in Pakistan... I have traveled a few times to Pakistan to visit family....

That's most likely the reason. Applicants from Middle Eastern countries and Pakistan are usually put through mandatory AP. It's sad to say, but your Pakistani heritage is more than likely the reason for AP, even though you're a natural born Brit.

They sometimes go by your parents' country of birth. Also, if you hold dual citizenship, that's almost a definite AP.

Its also a blessing (I know it doesnt seem that way now) that they have kept a hold of your passport. Once you have cleared AP you should receive your visa hopefully!

I love my husband!!

  i totally agree

edit: i imagine they will be doing extra checks on your parents and also on your visits to Pakistan. hopefully it will be a quick process for you :)

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply...I am born in England but my parents are both born in Pakistan... I have traveled a few times to Pakistan to visit family....

Not only are they checking your background they are checking the trips to pakistan too as well as your living in india. don't worry.. since your AP is being done in UK more than likely you will clear it within a couple of months... unlike those in Islamabad.. ;) have faith it won't last long!

The other posts are correct while it's uncommon its your heritage and trips to Pakistan that they need to clear.. that's it..

and nobody can make it go faster it will end when it ends... your representatives can get more information but they can't make it finish...

if you've previously held Indian citizenship, they may put you in AP. It's not mandatory for previous citizens of common AP countries, but it happens on a regular basis. The good news is that if you do end up in AP, they'll be doing it in London and not in New Dehli.. Meaning it'll probably go by a lot quicker.

As for police clearence, this won't help you out of AP, that's just to check for any criminal history. AP I suspect is more to check for possible extremism or fraud.. As silly as it may sound.

The good news it you'll be put through AP in London, not Islamabad.

If you've previously been admitted under the VWP I'm assuming you won't have many problems through AP. But AP is a lot more thourough than whatever checks they do when arriving on the VWP - On the VWP you're just a visitor for up to 90 days. On a CR-1, you'll be moving for good.

As silly as it may sound, they check for potential links to extremism, fraud etc. how they do it, I have no clue.
