B1/B2 proof of return

Hello,

I am an American missionary and married to a Filipino man. We are workin on getting his B1/B2 visa so that he can go to the States to go to a missionary fund raising conference, speak at churches, as well as meet my family.

Would proof of him speaking at this conference and other churches about missions and the team we are working with here in the Philippines help prove his reason for returning? Can it be considered "business"? We are technically an employ of them as all of our funds go through their organization. I (his USA wife) am legally an employ of them but he is not because his name isn't on the statements nor does he have a social security number.

Also, is it a good idea to tell them that he's married to an American or will be considered a threat that he might stay in the USA illegally?

And, do they check bank statements? We are missionaries in a poor and cheap country so we are not rich by American standards.

Thanks in advance.

As a missionary, why would you consider lying to the VO about his marital status and citizenship of his spouse? Is that 'normal?'

What they are going to be interested in is this: how long and/or permanent is YOUR assignment to the PI? Can you curtail your assignment easily? If the answers to these questions don't give the VO confidence that you will have sufficient reason to return to the PI, then neither will your husband.

You have to tell them he is married to an American.

No harm in applying, but I would not make any travel plans.

You may want to check into getting a Religious visa instead. Perhaps, the activities you would perform are considered under that one.

One of the hardest get due to..........................................fraud.

Which is quite amusing.

she cannot obtain one...and her husband doesn't need one once he obtains a GC. And as Boiler pointed out, religious visas are amongst the most fraudulent relative to their quantity....what is likely to matter for the foreign husband is what is keeping the American spouse grounded in the PI.

Thank you for all of your responses. Perhaps I worded it wrong. We would never lie. Committing fraudulent acts is NOT what I want or plan! I was simply wondering if being married to an American should be a main focus or if the conference should be the main focus. They'll know I'm American when they see our marriage liscense anyway. But should my husband focus on that or the conference?

We currently have no future plans to leave the Philippines. Including me. So I guess we will focus on that and prove our work here in the Philippines..........

Thank you again!

the visa application asks about marital status; he will be asked what his spouse does for a living, where she's living and is she traveling with him...and then....when (presumably) he answers these questions, the next one will be...'what kind of visa does she have?' -- and the answer is: 'none - she is a USC'...versus....'er, uh, I'm not sure....'

Awesome... thanks for all of your help! Now I understand a little bit more. And once again, just so anyone who may need to know... I wasn't trying to be fraudulent. Just wanted to know if we should focus on that I'm American or that he has things he needs to attend in the States with or without me. Not trying to commit fraud!
