This is a re-post from the K-1 Visa forum. I figured I might have better luck here:

I know the USEM in Manila is kind of "iffy" when it comes to co-sponsors and the I-134, but can anyone who has actually been approved AND included a co-sponsor (at the Manila Embassy) chime in with their personal experience with including a co-sponsor?

From what I've researched, it is the "totality of circumstances" (and not ONLY numbers and figures) that the Consular will consider when determining whether or not the beneficiary will become a public charge.

I've read a lot of what people THINK and HEARD about the whole co-sponsor and I-134 thing (again, at the MANILA embassy), but I haven't read anything from anyone who has ACTUALLY gone through it, so any experiences shared would be GREATLY appreciated (and we'll be sure to do the same once our interview is done). Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys. Very much appreciated. Our interview was yesterday and we were approved. According to my fiancée though, we almost weren't approved because of financial capacity. She said the consular had a very skeptical/concerned look when going over the I-134 and my ITR/W-2. Fortunately, my fiancée insisted on showing my 2008 and 2009 ITR's

, but still the consular wasn't completely satisfied. And then finally, my fiancée mentioned that my father was willing to co-sponsor and so she showed the consular the I-134 and I-864 he filled out. The consular told her she didn't need the I-134 but accepted the I-864. My fiancée told me that even at that point, the consular didn't look completely satisfied. It wasn't until a few moments later that the consular told her that everything looks good and that she was approved.

So, all-in-all, I really think that (as others have mentioned) it really is a case-by-case/totality of circumstances/mood of the consular type of thing when it comes to whether or not they will accept a co-sponsor. So, for others in a similar situation, I would suggest not wasting your time and sanity researching and researching the topic (as I did), because unfortunately, in the end, the ONLY sure answer to the question of whether or not they will accept a co-sponsor is: MAYBE. The only thing you can do is try...and hope for the best.

I was well-below the 125% guideline for 2011 (only made about $10,500). Also, I didn't have any income in 2010 (because I was in school) but I did make around $30,000 in both 2008 and 2009.

I think the CO was skeptical because my income for 2011 was so low and I have only been working at my current job for 6 months (I was in school before that).

In reality, however, my projected annual income at this current job is more than $25,000 (if you figure how much i SHOULD make for the rest of the year) which is what I indicated on the I-134 where it says "I derive an annual income of:". Maybe because of the fact that the amount I indicated on the I-134 didn't match what was on my 2011 ITR and W2 is what concerned the CO?

In the end, I think it was my father's I-864 (NOT the I-134 he filled out) that saved us. But again, the CO didn't even ask for it at first. My fiancée kind of had to "insist" on showing it.
