You have impeccable taste and this is your lucky day, here's the new and improved AV-8B. BTW, I can't recall the SR-1, my mind draws a blank. Do you mean the SR-71A or its proper Naval/Marine designation, the YF-12A or the A-12 program? I believe they did launch a few in 1965 but I couldn't tell you from which carrier, the Navy dropped out of the program and then the USAF and NASA continued on.

Thanks for that pic, you are a master at finding pics and vids. I can not seem to post pics without having issues and videos not at all.

Yeah there was a squadron of SR-71's at Kadena, AFB. The entire island knew when the "blackbird" or "Habu" was inbound.

I'll leave the uploading of pics to you.

You sure that you weren't in the Coast Guard?

I swear, I swear, I swear...I promise I have pics! :rofl::rofl:

Thank you, "no wussy Coastie" here, I still have mud and dirty in my ears from those weeks in the field. I was with an artillery battalion, we hit the field weeks before to prep for the deployment to Korea. We had a Colonel and a Sergeant Major, (both were pushing 30 years of active duty) those two old warhorses loved being in the field, Lord knows I hated them both for that.

I was amazed at what a couple of MRE's or the old style C-rations could get a cold and damn near frozen young guy in a muddy field, while on guard-duty.

Those old war horse Gunnery Sgt.'s would probably write me today if they knew the stunts we pulled.

I was also Artillery stationed near a camp by Uijongbu. Being so close to the DMZ meant we had to stay ready and a lot of field work.

MRE's were a great source of currency. A trade of one for a plate of hot fresh cooked food was a no brainer. (My fave was the rice omelette)

No place was colder than Korea. Very harsh winters there.

The seniors did the same thing when juniors.

You're so right. I traded those MRE's in a hurry for Japchae in the evenings (my favorite at that time) with a side of kimchi and hot bowls of shin ramyun in the mornings. Those 155 mm brass empties made for some great trades also, once got enough Japchae to feed two people for two days by giving papa san six 155 mm empties.

Man you bring back some serious memories. Plus the cold winters in Korean, experienced in the field for weeks is no joke.

Maneuvers in that frigid environment was killer. The stories I read and heard from my old man was true.

Still eat Kimchi often when I go home. My Vietnamese babe loves it. Also still eat Ramun often. Especially when cold out or just need a quick meal.

Almost miss those twin sonic booms twice a day we used to hear. Couldn't see what caused them ever but we all knew what it was about.

 You don't know how much that cold wears the body out until you experience it.

Will eat kimchi and shin ramyun until they don't make it anymore.

That was the mystery of the Habu, you never saw it, but you knew those two window rattling sonic booms.

Delivered there once but used to go to San Jose often. Even rented a vehicle a couple times and drove down Hwy 1 or even go to fisherman's wharf and all kinds of stuff. I have a lot of pics I took. Most of the time now I get even near there is often delivering to customers from Sacramento to Stockton or that away. We have a terminal in Tracy and near Fresno.

For sure. I have read where during the Korean war the stories and after suffering through two winters in Korea myself I couldn't imagine the agony. I do know the Marines suffered heavily there up near the Chosin reservoir. One of the most famous Marine sayings came from that episode on the march back to the sea.

Yeah it was strange the loud booms but could never see a thing. Not even a contrail.
