That would be Miramar, correct?

Fightertown? They moved that program to Fallon. 1st MEF (3d MAW) is all that's left, Mitscher Field was going to be decommissioned or become a dual-use facility like Fort Bliss, but there were/are sound issues. Tilt-rotor? must have been the new Osprey MV -22.

Have no idea if it was an Osprey or not but saw maybe 4-5 flying around. Was surprised because I thought they were abandoning the tilt rotors.

Leatherneck. I just looked at my Atlas and yes it says it was the Miramar air station.

That is what I saw. Awesome sight to see them flying around.

Supposed to be much quieter than than a CH-47 Chinook but with more lifting power. Much better than the Phrog, apparently. We'll see.

Psssst..

screw ups have a home, it's called the US Army.

Fire Watch is just a nice excuse for a nightly sojourn. Silently hum a tune, Semper Fidelis is always nice.. Sleep? Most Marines get eight hours of sleep. That's much more than they need, you can sleep all you want when you reach the Final Duty Station. Remember Inchon? PT is a chance to stretch the legs, experience the great outdoors. You don 't even have to join the gym to get a workout.

3 hours of watching drill videos, you becoming a REMF on me, Marine? We can fix that, a bit of mountain climbing, cherry picking and bending and thrusting should do the trick.

As a treat, I have some nice reading for you, it's fascinating, really.

Good Night, Ladies.

Here's a lullaby,

Watching those vids was good for the spirit.

:D now you know that comment about the Army can and has cause many a fights. More than a few bars have been thrashed as a result of similar comments.

Oh boy, I started to sweat just thinking about the number of "bends and thrusts" and "mountain climbs" I did while in the sand pit under the hot summer sun of San Diego. With commercial planes flying overhead and wishing I was on one rather than in that pit. Memories, memories, memories!

Thanks for the link to the Drill Manual, that was good reading. I must have no life if I enjoy reading a Marine Corps Drill Manual

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" - Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945.

The address said San Diego but it was off of Miramar Blvd I delivered to.

Yeah, Miramar blvd is it...the main gate is on Miramar Blvd. Not far from the 15 fwy.

I remember a couple of bars in Korea that were trashed. It was always strange how us Army and the Marines we had just had some harmless fun with would just congregate at another bar and laugh together. One of the times I might have been the reason that bar fight started. In my defense though, when the jungle juice has been consumed no one can truly be blamed for their actions.whistling.gif

The Shite hooks were noisy for sure. Been on a few. Wasn't close enough to hear the Tilt rotors though so have to take your word for it. Would be awesome to fly around in one at least once.

Yeah. I came up 15 to 215 and along the way I saw a big flying tanker flying around. Couldn't understand why it was flying around the valley and over the highway then went past a sign that said something about it being their home or they were made there. Big frigging machine to be flying around that low to the ground but impressive.

Just run before the MP or SP shows up. Army and Navy disagreements tend to be the worst, never heard of the Coast Guard getting into such situations.

The ones closest to the door went and warned us when the MP's were coming then everyone would make an exit and congregate at another bar. In Korea back then we never saw the Marines except for a few weeks every year during and after a major yearly exercise called Team Spirit. This was in 85-86.

MV-22B is undergoing extensive duty with 3 MEF out of Okinawa (Futemna) and no serious crashes have been reported with 70,000+ flight hours. Don't think it will replace Marine One (Sea King or the White Hawk), but it would be something if it lands at the White House.

From Texas to Miramar, CA., is a very long haul. Yeah 215 to 15 then get on the 163 - off at Miramar Blvd. right turn, main gate on the left.

Now this is the aircraft I really enjoyed watching, the AV-8. The SR-1 was a pure joy to watch screaming down the runway at Kadena, AFB Okinawa, Japan.

Usually a few sober individuals will watch the street since the MPs or SP aren't exactly subtle in their approach. Of course, there's always some insane enough to sass them, there's no saving some people. wacko.gifwacko.gifwacko.gif
