Hi all,

My husband and I are trying to file the form I485 and G 325A. We are experiencing "blind men size up elephant"!!One basic question we recently debating is" what name should i put on these two forms?" My maiden name or name that i wish to use in the future (with my husband's last name)?

I have not changed my name for social security card, driver's license or passport (It sounds like another hassle). So all my document is showing my maiden name except on marriage license, i did write "my first name & my husband's last name" as the name will be known as.

I would like to use my married name on the application so hopefully i dont need to change name on green card, but i am not sure if it is appropriate to put my married name since no other documents is supporting that name.

Please help, I'd appreciate your help!!!!

If you want to use your married name you fill the forms out with your married name. Your green card will arrive in the name you use to fill the forms out.

If you plan to use your married name, then that is what you put on the form. There is a space that asks if you have gone by any other name, this is where you fill in your maiden name. The government knows that you are transitioning from a K-1 to LPR and that requires marriage, so they expect name change but do not require it. The main issue is if you decide to later change your name, you will have to pay for a replacement greencard and that is expensive. Good luck!

Ah Ha, I see! This will make my life so much easier since I would prefer using my married name for everything going forward!

Many thanks!!!
