Hi folks,

I have jumped the gun couple times and did things before their due times:

1- Did my DS-156 weeks prior to hearing about our NOA2 approval!

2- Based on some recommendations in this site, and after I spoke to NVC and hearing that they had DHL'ed our approved docs. to USC in Bogota, I went ahead and set up an appointment for my fiance (yes, I first paid the fees & presumed I had heard from the consulate to proceed as such)

Question1: Have I done something terribly wrong, as I have not even heard from the US embassy yet!?

If I have, what's my recourse? Should I wait for the email from the USC, Bogota and re-do

DS-156 & re-schedule my appointment again then?

Question2: Does the USC really care when we schedule our interview appointment, so long as we

have received our BOG case number and our data is in their system?

If so, i.e, they care, is there a penalty to be paid?

Please respond ASAP.

With our gratitude,

Monica & Wil

Monica and Wil,

As I mentioned in m message to you I think you are ok. Technically you are not supposed to do things ahead of time. But scheduling the appointment after NVC approval is not uncommon . I have even heard of some people doing it after their NOA2. The 156 and 156 K are only filled in online and printed. They are not transmitted electronically and you bring them with you on the day of your interview. So you could even fill in the 156 and 156 k right before your interview but if you are like me all those forms have already been prepared and triple checked before the date of your interview,

RE: Filling out the DS-156 & DS-156K early: As long as the information in the forms is still correct and has not changed, and the information is accurate and complete at the time of the interview, then you are good. If some of the information has changed, then redo the forms. No harm, no foul.

RE: Scheduling the appointment early: As long as you can have your required documents ready with you at the interview, then no problem. Good for you!
