Hi everyone.

I hope someone can help me out here. I'm a US citizen, looking into bringing my brother to the US. I've been looking around and reading this forum as well, but I thought it might be easier if I just post my question. Hoping that someone can help me out.

My brother currently lives in Denmark. I know that I need to fill out form I-130 to get the ball rolling, now here are my questions:

1) do I need to fill out and send in form I-864 right away? if not right away, when would I have to send it in? I'm asking because I know it could take about 10 years to sponsor a sibling and what happens if your income etc have changed during that time.

2) when do the sibling need to come in for an interview at the US embassy? would it be closer to the day the visa would be issued, or closer to the day we mail in the forms?

3) what do the usually ask at the interview - does anyone know?

4)do anyone know where I can check out the timelines for sponsoring a sibling.

Thank you so much :)

You are right it will be about 10 years if the laws and lines stay the same. You submit the I 130 and it will get approved and then disappear into a big dark hole for 10 years. When it is time for your brothers interview then you will submit the affidavit of support. One would hope they are aking more money then than now, but in the end it is what you make when he comes that counts. There is a visa bulletin posted every month that shows the priority date they are currently working. Just google visa bulletin and you will find it you are looking at the F4 class

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Welcome luckycoco..

You can join the F4 forum in the links provided in my signature..

The answers to your questions..

1.No. Once u send in the I-130 and when the Priority date is current in the visa bulletin, then NVC will ask for the Fee payment and Affidavit of Support(I-864 forms)

2.Right now it is closer to 10 years and closer to the day when visa is available.

3.Not many questions except for some proof of photographs.

4.You can check the F4 Priority Date Tracking for checking the timelines for VJ members.

Good Luck.

Great reply. Instead of checking a secondary source for how long it will take to sponsor your sibling, you should rely on the Visa Bulletin.

Thank you so much for your help guys

Just another question: My husband has a business, and I was thinking about getting my brother here with a work visa, working for my husband - can I do that while this case is pending? or do I have to choose one or the other?

Is it difficult or apply for a work visa?

It isn't so easy.

Your husband would need to advertise the position in the US. He must attempt to hire a US worker. If he can't find a qualified worker, he must apply for a certification that no US worker is available or qualify for the job, and that is why he needs to bring in a skilled foreign worker. After he gets the certification, he would need to compete with other employers for a limited pool of visas for foreign workers. If he is successful, then your brother can come to the US on a non-immigrant visa.

What's the job?

Does your brother have a college degree?
